Lots of chain smoking rednecks. As an over educated recalcitrant redneck, I can swim in that pool but its been very frustrating to find a way to smoke a cigar.

Hey! Over the last couple years I’ve been enjoying cruise vacations. I started off with Carnival because I was given a free cruise from a land based casino as a comp. I’ve stuck with them for several cruises because the offers I get are incredible due to my casino play. I found similar issues to what you describe smoking on the ship and have searched other options because of it. Have you tried norwegian cruise line ships before? Some of them from what I understand have cigar lounges. I am heavily considering switching over to them because of that, but wondering if it’s worth it… I currently get suits, drinks, a considerable amount of free play, and other perks I would give up to switch, but might be worth it… I’m interested in your thoughts on this, if you have any feedback.

I’m going through some older cbid mistakes, I mean purchases to make room. This being a conglomerate stick living off a Cuban name seemed an easy target but actually surprised me a little. Black pepper, earth and spice with a hint of raisin sweetness. Bitterness shows up but fortunately doesn’t stay long. Coffee, pepper, aromatic spices and faint underlying sweetness. Better second half with good strong spice and pepper. Not a lot of flavors or excitement but not terrible especially in 97 degree heat.

I think the cigar lounges have gone the way of the dodo bird Im sorry to say. I've been on 15+ cruises since the 90s.

Princess used to have really nice ones. I mean really nice. Google princess churchills cigar lounge for pics. I read about 4 or 5 years ago Australia banned smoking everywhere and they converted them all to arcades etc. rather then having to cherry pick which ships they can send to that market. If they were decent people they would have just closed off that space when they went there. Of course there were the Karen's who complained about smoke and odor and I get that and they could have done a better job venting those spaces. What's really frustrating is they still have a smoking side of the casino which is right next to where the lounges used to be and on this trip the ventilation seems really good there. Oh and I hardly ever see anyone in the converted lounges aka arcades. The kids section upstairs have always had games so the whole thing is just dumb.

Even back when they had them people used them as smoking lounges. Groups would come through and take up a bunch of seats and hot box a cancer stick on the way to the show being loud and obnoxious so you couldnt even enjoy what was on the tv. But that was better then the current option.

Now all the smokers have to convene somewhere outside on the back of the ship. My experience so far with this set up is cigarette smokers just sit out there shooting the shit all day. Half aren't actively smoking. And they dont put out enough seating tables and ashtrays. There are like 3500 people on the ship and only seating for 20 or 25 smokers. The math doesn't work. I may actually complain about this since I've gotten some level of status w princess.

I think now energy would be better spent on locating lounges in ports and just deal with whatever you have to on the ship. Which sucks because you will have to choose cigar fun vs other vacay activities since time in port is finite. I was in the cigar house of San Juan the other day and it was nice and yesterday I found a small shop and lounge on the main drag along the water front in Charlotte amalie on st t. But then you probably have to buy your stick from them rather then smoking from your private stash.

If you find a ship w a lounge do share. Ive read holland america may have the last one but I wouldnt count on it enough to book on just that. I'm still going to cruise but I will have to adjust my expectations.

Edit: For me now I source a cheap torch lighter before I board since you cant fly w one and just chuck it at the end of the trip. You def need a torch lighter out on deck. I bring that small one finger ashtray in the background so I am not at the mercy of their ashtrays which are strictly for cigarettes. See also in background of pic. I dump my ashes when im done then drop it in a small ziploc to carry it in my pocket back to the cabin.

I was smoking cigars in an NCL lounge in June. Many of their ships have one. Reports of the lounge’s demise are greatly exaggerated.

My daughter took one that had a lounge but she said I wouldn’t like it. Just wondered if it would be worth giving up significant perks and start over just for the lounge… thought I’d ask a cigar smokers opinion.
