Torch Lighter Recommendations

OK guys, I used the search for "torch lighters", "lighters", and "which lighter" and couldn't quite find what I'm looking for.

I'm wanting to get a decent torch lighter for the golf course, lake, etc. All other times I swear by matches and really enjoy the ritual of it, but there's those times...I mean, I live in Oklahoma, the wind is always blowing!

What would you recommend. I'm not looking to spend a fortune, just a good torch that can bang around in my golf bag or wife's purse.

Thanks in advance

Still not getting over using "wife" :D

They all suck. I have three, a Dupont extend and 2 Blazers. The extend and one of the Blazers are off for repair. The other Blazer just came back. I am so sick and tired of this BS. When is someone going to make a Butane torch lighter as reliable as a Zippo.

Doc.

Ironically, the most reliable and nicest little torch lighter I have came from Little Havana. Check out the Volcano Dual Flame Pocket Torch......for $6.99. Score that and a can or two of their King triple filtered butane and you should be good to go.

I got about four years out of the first one before the piezo finally gave out. Just got another. Bang for the buck, they rock....

That's why I buy the $3 ones. It breaks, throw it out, grab another. :)

My blazer PB-207 seems to work just fine for me. It's small enough to keep handy at all times and I like the industrial look/feel to it....but thats just my $.02

Zippo does make a butane torch, and butane inserts.

The Zippo Blu is kinda pricey at around $40-$50, but the inserts are IMO just as good at less than half the price.

Getting a cheapo is a good route, but there is nothing more disappointing then getting ready for that smoke, and then having your only lighter crap out right there in the middle of the course.
You could carry a couple, but what are you?! Some kind of boyscout!

Thanks for the link Tom! Just ordered two (one for me, one for the wife). Hope I have as much luck as you have with them!

My Blazer PB-207 is 10 years old and works flawlessly. I also have a few Zippos with the Z-plus inserts but their butane capacity is so tiny, a couple of cigars and I have to refill.

If you want to use a lighter in a windy setting, then torch lighters are not the best. In fact, I find they blow out rather readily. The ones that use a jet and a superheated coil are much more wind resistant in my experience.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll pick up a couple of the cheapies and look for the coil/jet as well. I'll always keep the matches around, that way on a windy day it'll be a group effort to light up....bring that foursome closer than they've ever been.

Since we're in here talking butane...

Has anyone actually used the new Zippo Blu? I don't mean a one shot deal. I mean use with regularity. What are your thoughts about it?

Recently I lost my Xikar Enigma. So I stopped off at my local B&M and went with a downgraded Xikar. The one with the squezze trigger. Its single flame and for $30 bucks... its working just fine. I am partial to Xikar cutters and torches... and the warranty is the best in the biz....

I picked up a colibri vortex on cbid for about $35. It is a dual flame which would probably be good for the golf course and it has a bigger fuel tank. Keep checking cbid and you can find a nice lighter for well below retail.

Blazer PB-207 here, no problems to date and it holds up well to the wind. It also held up to the washing machine once. ;)

PB 207 here...two for one deal with a Hong Kong company. Plus their Blazers don't have the child-safety roll thingy.

I miss my Blazer. That lighter went strong for 5 years, then held on for another 3 before it was stolen.

I like the Z+ inserts because I like the form factor of a zippo, nearly beyond all other tools. I also have a few that I've carried for years, so the butane conversion is neat. But like Wilkey said, the fuel capacity sucks, and mine at least is a real pain to fill (lots of purging is needed.)

I use a table-top culinary torch that was a wedding gift. Intended to melt the sugar on creme brule, it sat unused in out kitchen until i moved it onto the patio where I'm now in the process of wearing it out...

The Tatuaje table-lighter is on my Christmas list...

I use a cheap Ronson w/ King butane. My last one was an even cheaper tri-flame that broke the first time I dropped it. My Ronson has been dropped about 12 times and still holds up. I'm not gonna mess with whats not broke so I'm happy for now.

I picked up a Xikar Element a few months ago, and its worked well. Its a little pricey, but I don't mind paying a premium when doing business with a company like Zika that treats their customers like they should personaly
