Hey gang,
well, I'm usually spending at least 6 to 8 weeks out of the year on the road. I have built up a nice collection of cigars to last me a good long time (thanks to GBs, box splits, and generous BOTL/SOTL). When I hit the road, much like CDs to bring for the trip, I'd also like to pick out a nice bunch of cigars to travel with me and would like a reliable travelling humidor (if one even exists).

A good friend of mine gave me his Dunhil, but I found that it didn't keep the cigars as well as I'd like. Maybe I'm being too picky and that there is NO way to keep them as nice as I'd like with a travelling humi.

So, with that in mind, can someone suggest a good one to purchase and, if you wouldn't mind, a good place to purchase one.

As an aside, if I'm travelling via plane and wish to bring ISOM puros with me, what do you think I should do. Remove bands, or not.

Sorry for the two part post, but I figured it would probably stimulate a more interesting discussion.

Thanks for reading,
Darren

If you want something rugged this is my choice. The Road Warrior retails for $100. Holds up 18 cigars. It's air tight and great for maintaining humidity while flying or in undesirable conditions. Also has a lifetime guarantee.

Haha, I'll back up the above posters.

I've got my 32 caddy with puck enroute from cigarmony. I don't think you can go wrong there PTownshend.

Gee, thanks for the kudos guys!

PTownshend - I currently have the 2, 5, 10, 15 & 24 ct cigar caddy(s) in stock (black or grey) and ship the same day via USPS Priority mail, so you'd have it in 2-3 days.

Thanks again guys, being a "start up" is tough and a long way from seeing "black" so the kudos are they only reward I have.

Sincerely,
Mark

ps - don't forget to add a Humidi-Puck™!

:) Thanks to everyone's input. Mark, I just received the Humidipuck from your site. Awesome service and fast turnaround/shipping.

Sweet! (I try to keep notes in Quickbooks as to real names/board names - now I know!)

Thanks again for the support bro, I greatly appreciate it.

I picked up the otterbox 5400 for $22 on cbid. Its amazing how at some herfs I can smoke all day long and go home with more cigars than I started with. If at a B&M Ialways purchase a few and inevitably there is some trading of cigars maybe even a little grenade tossing...

Yea, with some patience and timing you can get an otter box or pelican for a great price.

I use a 32 count for my golf trips...man it empties out fast :whistling: !!!

I'm also looking for a good travel humidor for when I go to Poland for a while this summer (2 months). I'd like to be able to carry 20-25 cigars well, while not carrying a kevlar, roadside bomb proof armored shell with foam in it. Maybe I'm a bit of a traditionalist, but I really, really appreciate the simplicity and style of the more simple Savoy or Dunhill cases. Anyone use these, comments, suggestions?

Sure, they are great, as long as you don't move them. If your travelling will involve taking the box out of your bag and putting it on the nightstand, they function quite nicely and look great too.
If, on the other hand, you might toss your box in the back of the car, walk around, go to a herf, etc, the otter-box type cases are the way to go. I have two, and am about to order another (trying to decide on size) from Mark at cigarmony.com

I'm all but sold on the Otterbox for my upcoming honeymoon to Aruba. I like the idea of the cigars being protected, in case the box gets knocked around. TSA is not known for their nimble ways of handling your personal carry-on. To them, we are cattle to be herded in the corral and so is your luggage.

I just haven't decided whether to get the 15ct. for space consideration or the 24ct. for more cigar consideration.... choices choices.

Hey PT I love collecting anything cigar related lighters, cutters, hummis, you name I have spent money on it.

So not to take business away from anyone but giving you an alternative view...

I have traveled for awhile with my good ole El Rubbermaidio Humi. Its durable you can pick multiple sizes depending on your trip and you can get em from your local grocery store for a fraction of the cost. Mine is lined with cedar from an old box of smokes and a thin foam top. Throw in a humi puck burb it when you close it and walla. Most of all they are all flatter than any other large cigar storage container which makes it ideal for packing.

Now is this the optimum way to go? Well maybe not for everyone but I have been out on 3 week trips with a load of smokes and never had any issues.

Just my .02

I was just going to make one of these.
Is it better to use old boxes rather than buying cedar from Lowe's?
Since it has already seasoned? Can I get boxes at my local shop, or would I look like a moocher to them?

Second, is there a way to secure it to the tubberware, so that it does not rattle while traveling?

I highly suggest an otterbox. www.cigarmony.com has a nice stock of them.
The only problem I have found with the use of tupperdor for travel is the possibility of them being smashed. Plastic can only withstand so much weight.
AN otterbox is practically indestructible. It gauranteed to be water/air tight. I have been using an 18 count otter box for about 2 yrs now. So far so good. I just invested in a humipuck to help maintain the rh at 65%.

I don't know, just read about the otterbox, only good up to 100 feet underwater, what if I want to take my collection scuba diving with me.

Nah, just saw a picture of one, way to cool looking.

Pretty soon I will end up with one.

I'd make sure you're buying Spanish Cedar, and not American Red Cedar from Lowe's. The American Red is for lining closets to keep away moths, and will add a flavor to your smokes that most people do not find to be pleasant.
