Tried my first Port tonight

I think Six Grapes is pretty damn good for an inexpensive port. If you want to try something other then a ruby, grab a bottle of Whiskers Blake or Sandeman Tawny for around 15$. Quite a different taste then a ruby.

Ah what the hell! Maybe I will. I could search of course, but as long as we're on the port subject, how long do they keep once opened? Assuming you recork it.

I got some gift certificates for christmas so I picked up 2 tawny ports and 1 vintage port. I've only had port one time and it was a long time ago.

The first bottle I opened was disgusting! It was like some thick, too sweet cough syrup. I couldn't drink it. :(

I knew I should have done a little research before buying. I hope my other tawny is better than the first was.

As with most of the finer things of life...... it turns out it is indeed as often stated "an aquired taste". I've almost finisihed my first bottle of tawney port, a cheaper bottle being cautious and thrifty, made my Offley (I believe, Im 250 miles from home right now so I can't run to the wine rack and check). But the first port I tried was a ruby, and the more I've drank of the tawney, with cigars of course, I've gotten to like. Perhaps next I'll move into the $20.00 and up range for my next. So there are indeed good ports from other than PORTugal???
