tuppadore vs humidore

well im thinking im going to buy a humidor.. i dont really plan to store boxes well at least for now. thanks alot guys but anyone can tell me a good site or antyhing
 
I have had absolutely no problems with my tuppidor. It looks almost identical to Ginsing's, but about 8 gallon. I have placed my portable wireless hygo in there and have had very stable 66-67% which i check every few weeks.Its lines with cedar box pieces.

Suggestions:
1) if you do get one, a good quality (Rubbermaid) one holds the seal better.
2) rinse it out with a mild bleach solution, then warm water, followed by baking soda sol'n. I set mine up 2 months ago, and no plastic smell.

Probably a good idea for you for now hobbes1. But as someone said, hang around here long enough and you'll be setting up 125 quart coolerdors before you know it! :laugh:

I too started small way back when :p

Oh, you'll probably find some good deals on eBay OR post a "Willing to Buy" thread here in the "Buy/Sell/Trade" forum. I'd be willing to bet there are a few guys around here who have some smaller humis that they outgrew who'd be willing to give you a pretty good deal.
 
Well i can only try to convince you and make you think about the problem. But if you are fine with storing loose cigars in plastik boxes i can not force you to change your opinion :D
I just wanted to give my advise...
Of course a plastic box is really cheap, but is the cheapest also the best?
Of course the most expensive must not be the best...
Consider that and go the way you feel comfortabel! I made bad experiences!

I would not upgrade the hygro, don't waste your money on a "seasoning kit" but the drymist tube might be a good upgrade. Personally, I like viper's beads.

Oh, skip the "calibration kit" too. There are threads here (if you use the search function) to find out how to do the salt test to calibrate your hygrometer.
 
The humidor you have chosen seems to be perfect for your purposes!
I agree with coventrycat - beads are a good idea!
 
haha being the most indecivive person i have made my final choice to make a tuppderadore like jeff b. i am about to order the beads and i was looking online for a hygrometer.. i found one on a pet site for cheap..http://www.petsolutions.com/default.aspx?ItemId=15522466&EID=PG15522466&SID=PGRAB but ill rather just go to my local pet store and buy it thier is that hygrometer fine??

Dude,
You're killing me! ;) Just kidding. I tend to be a ditherer a bit as well. Like Ccat and Igwana advise, use the right management solutions (including a digital hygrometer that has been salt-tested) and either type will serve you. Sunward's advice about baking soda is also a great one. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid to remove any traces of mold release (the stuff they spray on injection molding dies that most of these tupper/rubbers are made on).

And honestly, if you stay in this hobby, you will be seeking larger and larger containers since no room means you can't buy that next great stick you want...and that's frustrating. :p

Baking soda inside the cooler/ tupperware box for a couple of days was sufficient for removing the plastic smell.

My problem is that every time I accumulate enough cash to buy a "real" humidor, I spend it on another box to go inside my big plastic tub instead.

Same problem here, although I was lucky enough to know a generous BOTL that was moving out of the area and wanted to cheaply rid himself of a nice 300 ct humi. I bought it for a very nice price and store some of my nicer smokes in it. I used tupperdors for a long time and never had any problems with RH, plastic smell, or mold. It's all about properly taking care of your sticks regardless of the storage device. I'd still be using plastic if I didn't luck out on the humi I have know.
 
Not sure if this is after the fact, but I have that exact humidor (from Cheap Humidors) and it's a dandy. For the price, I don't think you can beat it. Of course, there's also a big plastic "Coleman" humidor upstairs as well.... :p Like CC, I've never had any "plastic smell" issues at all.

And, as far as hygros go, don't be too cheap here. Get a good digital hygro, and salt test it to verify it's calibration....it just takes so much worry out of the whole storage process. I have three hygros from Little Havana...and I'd buy another. The owner and I have corresponded and at the time I bought mine, he told me they were doing 100% QC on their hygros in a known RH environment. My three all salt tested right on the mark....recommended:
