Well, I am back with an updated wine and cigar list as promised. Although not 100% complete I believe it is much better than what it was three months ago.

When you get the chance please go to our website, www.mdsteakhouse.com and let me know what you think of the list as it currently stands.

PS - sorry for the double post :(

Quite a selection for a steakhouse cigar bar, but it appears lacking in the types of cigars I would looking for after a full steak dinner.

What are...

Arturo Fuente #4
Arturo Fuente Belicoso
Arturo Fuente Presidente

Do you mean:

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos #4
Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Belicoso
Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Presidente

No Padrons in sight? ??? I'd think they would be one of the easist to acquire and one of the most popular/ well known premiums to stock! Wide range of price points as well.

I'd consider stocking in some Davidoff, AF Hemingway Short Stories & Signatures and a few sizes in Ashton VSGs as well. Again, easy enough to acquire and classic smokes for a steakhouse.

Also it's the Ashton VSG Illusion, I agree with MMM on stocking some more VSGs and Hemingways, you might also want to get some of the base line Fuente stuff. Padrons, again, are a must too. Tatuaje Reds/Whites would be a good idea too, a lot of serious cigar smokers still haven't tried them and if you get one in your restaurant, you want to be able to surprise him/her. I'm a little torn on a Davidoff selection because I know getting an account is probably over the top for one restaurant and buying them from someone else is probably going to make them priced out of a reasonable range.

Just in general, after quickly browsing over the list, you don't have a lot of smokes for an inexperienced cigar smoker. I'd definitely get in some Ashton Classics and Fuente naturals in smaller (corona or Chateau sizes) for the inexperienced smoker.

Excellent comments, Kirk. Right on the money.

I would consider including a few of the following:
Ashton Aged Maduro
Punch Black
Joya de Nicaragua Antano
Davidoff (any line)
Diamond Crown Maximus
AVO (any line)

I guess popularity demands the Acids and CAO Flavors, huh?

Wilkey

Yeah, Davidoff might be an impossiblity, since you have to be an appointed merchant and carry their entire line. Maybe just get a box or two at retail, raise the price a buck or two a stick. You wouldn't make much profit off the Davidoffs but it would be impressive to have them on your list.

We cannot carry specific Davidoff because of an issue with another somewhat close retailer - political bullshit

Yes, these are Ashton EVG - extra Virgin Sungrown, damn good cigar. The VSGs are on backorder and until I actually get them in I don't want to include them as of yet

I am also looking into the Padron ('26 and '64) and the Hemingway line. I also want to get some Antano's too.

As for entry level sticks - we don't really need to have them since most if not all of our patrons are experienced smokers and are always looking for an above average cigar. So from a marketing POV there is no need to carry these

Lastly, the ACIDs are some of our best selling cigars. We usually get the women turned onto cigars via the Waffe and then slowly get them into a Fuente Beli, Don Diego or a Macanudo New Hyde Park. Then it is just a matter of time until they come full circle into the dark side

Huh. Never heard of the Ashton EVGs, maybe you mean VSG Estate Reserve (in which case, your patrons have no clue how lucky they are)...

Hm. I'm confused.

No, you aren't the one who is confused TYFNS.

Yes, these are Ashton EVG - extra Virgin Sungrown, damn good cigar.

Ahhhh...no. Try again. The first rule of marketing is brand name awareness.

Me thinks the original post was for promotional purposes, not a genuine request for advice. :whistling:

They aren't the VSG ERs either, because, well, I have on good information that the VSG ER Illusions were never shipped...

So what are they?

(thanks moki!)

The Ashton ESG uses a unique Dominican wrapper grown on the Chateau de la Fuente farm in the Dominican Republic. This wrapper has never been used on any other cigar. The blend is the creation of Carlos Fuente Jr. who is a master blender.

Yep, but your website states Ashton Illusion. You also referred to it as an Ashton "EVG - extra Virgin Sungrown"....

An Ashton VSG ( Virgin Sun Grown) Illusion is 6.5 x 44

An Ashton ESG ( Estate Sun Grown) Churchill is 6.75 x 49

Your customers may be as thoroughly confused.

Yikes! :0 Now his website says "Ashton ESG Illusion" , instead of "Ashton Illusion" from earlier today.

It's either Ashton ESG Churchill or Ashton VSG Illusion. There is no such thing ( currently ) as an Ashton ESG Illusion!

Fix the damn AF Don Carlos mistakes too while you're at it.....

Should I bill the Marketing Department at M&Ds for my services, Ben, or should I bill you directly? :whistling: :D

From what I can see, your establishment is a top notch steakhouse. With food and wine, a 4 top bill has to be between $300 - $500. Your clients are in the top 1%, so your cigar menu should reflect that. IMO, you need a hand full of the OpusX, Padron 26/64, Davidoff(Morton's carry them), Tatuaje, Diamond Crown Maximus, etc.(You know what I'm trying to say)

Other than a few missing brands, you have done an OUTSTANDING job. :D
