Recently, the following bills have been filed in an attempt to restrict smoking of cigars and other tobacco products within the Commonwealth:

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.ex...&val=hb2245
1. House Bill No. 2245 from Delegate Algie T. Howell, Jr. - Democrat of Norfolk[/a] [br]

2. House Bill No. 2689 from Delegate Glenn G. Oder - Republican of Newport News [/a][br]

3. House Bill No. 2422 from Delegate Morgan H. Griffith - Republican of Salem [/a][br]

4. House Bill No. 2067 from Delegate John A. Cosgrove - Republican of Chesapeake [/a][br]

5. House Bill No. 1952 from Delegate Harvey B. Morgan - Republican of Gloucester [/a][br]

6. House Bill No. 2005 from Delegate Vincent F. Callahan, Jr. - Republican of McLean [/a][br]

7. Senate Bill No. 1161 from Senator Brandon J. Bell. II - Republican of Roanoke [/a]

Simply speaking, House Bills 2245, 2689, 1952, and 2005 need to be defeated, along with Senate Bill 1161. Each of the above bills from the House of Delegates has been assigned to the House General Laws Committee, and their Sub-Committee #3, which defeated Senator Bell’s legislation last year. Senator Bell’s 2007 legislation has been assigned to the Senate Education & Health Committee, just as last year.

People are the power not the politicians.

 Good luck to you brothers!
They just got us in the communist state of Ohio for a complete ban. :(
I am praying that there will still be a few free states left.

Virgina is northern end of Tobacco Road WTF, do not allow it hell you might as wll throw NC in there too.

My town passed the ban on Jan 2nd. It was quickly repealed Jan 19th.

Luckily there was a huge outcry by merchants, employees and private business and an emergency meeting had to be called.

The next ban will actually be voted on..not snuck in at some council meeting that no one attends.

Voicing your concerns does work!

For those of us who are not VA residents, we shouold write to the governor and the sponsors of the bills advising that we will not visit VA nor spend our money there as long as any smoking bans are in effect.

As for who to contact, the US Senators and Congressmen from VA have nothing to do with their state laws. It will do very little good to contaact them on this issue as they have no standing in the state legislature.

You can find contact information for the governor and bill sponsors at Contact VA gov

See my post here about cigar ban in Philadelphia PA. Think it can't happen to you?

Delaware's already gone over but fight it in your states if you can. We can still smoke outdoors but 40F weather makes it somewhat less enjoyable.

Good luck to all the cigar smokers in the embattled states.
