VSG's gone flat?

It could be that the blend changed or the batch was bad, but it could also be your palette? Sometimes I go on a streak where I enjoy one type of smoke for a while and then suddenly find them flat or out of whack. I'd say try revisiting them in a little bit. Sounds frustrating when your go-to changes in flavor. Another question I had is are you changing the type of drink you are having with the smokes? That can also affect it. The same goes with what you eat before it.

Good insight and ideas that I considered, but found to be irrelevant. Once I started noticing what I thought was a change in the profile, I went out of my way to make sure I wasn't eating or drinking anything that could be skewing my perception. I also considered the fact that my tastes may have changed and that could be the case but I am doubtful. I have a handful more and I will continue to smoke through them to see if I am mistaken, I hope I am because these were a favorite of mine.

Gary,

You might be surprised at just how effectively "folklore" can become truth and how this can shape one's perceptions.

I am not discounting independent accounts of perceived differences in the flavor profile. I just want to see some controlled, empirical work on this before I totally buy it.

BTW, a theory would be something like "the dilution of the original VSG profile is a result of a change in tobacco strain and processing conditions." Saying Ashton have dumbed down the VSG is conjecture at least as I reckon it.

In this case, it's a good work...smoking cigars and talking about smoking cigars. :)

This I agree with.

I can tell you that Fuente has not changed the blend. Whether or not other factors are involved, I don't know.

I honestly haven't smoked this year's production yet, so I have no first hand accounting.

I smoked my first VSG like two days ago. I have to say I wasn't all that impressed... It was very young though. I bought three of them and Im gonna let the other two age for a while. We'll see what happens.
