Okay, so, you guys know that i kinda haven't been around most of the summer. Wanna know why???? :D

Okay, so here's the story. Back in October, when i was at Purdue, i was renting an apartment with 3 other people. (two girls and ONE guy). The guy was nice enough to take charge and pay all the utils, and divide it up equally among the other people. So, every month or two, i pay him a check for utilities.

So, i pay him via check every time, and this particular time, i think it was October, gave him a check for around 100 bucks. So, months go by, thinking that he cashed the check. The Check (note the date of issuance)

BIG MISTAKE.

It turns out he didn't cash the check until about 10 days before june, and this is when i had about 200 dollars left in my bank account. Since i had 200 left, i decided to basically withdrawl everything i had from that account. But since it was BANK ONE, not available in ny, i used my check card to take everythin out. However, since my stupid roomie decided to cash my check in JUNE, it made everything all crazy and out of sync...

basically, costed me a crap load in overdrawing and fees, about $250 in total. I spent most of the summer paying that off, and obtaining some pocket money, which wasn't that much.

I asked bank one about the situation, and they said i was at fault. MOST banks automatically void checks after 6 months. In BANK ONE's case, it's ONE FRIGGIN YEAR.

Moral of story: keep tabs of your checks, write VOID AFTER XX days, and don't STAB PEOPLE IN THE FRIGGIN NECK.

hope you enjoyed my story, and why i wasn't around all that much.
I have more stories about what happened during the summer, but it'll unwravel little by little. One time, it involves giving a crap load of people cigars, and there'll be pictures.

But until next time kiddies, remember my adages. You know what they are.
And my roomie sucks.
He called me up a month later, asking me if i got my router and network cables ( i lent em to my roommates so we could all get dsl), and i said yes. I also told him what happened. He was like, "WELL, IT"S A GOOD THING I DIDN"T C.O.D. THE PACKAGE I SENT."

gah. thinking about it makes me violent.

oh, the names are half heartly erased in the check.jpg to protect the guilty. sorta.

Jolly, you never noticed that he did not cash the check?

Even if you write "void after ninety days" that really doesn't mean anything other than possibly intimidating the person who you gave the check to because the banks will still follow their own policies no matter what is hand written on the check.

Sorry to break your stones.... :sign:

he did cash the check. it said so on my statement.

but when i had a big fit about it, i called up bank one, and they said if i wrote a void after, then the bank has to honor it.

maybe this is just for indiana?

No I meant didn't you notice between October and June that the check was still outstanding and therefore since it was still outstanding, don't close the account until the person you gave it to cashes it.

On the second statement, Hmmmmmm I never heard of that. Still though, I would fear that even if you wrote that on a check it still couold get processed if the teller/bank person missed the note........

Just the same, I empthasize with ya jolly, because the IDIOT waited EIGHT months to cash it, it caused you problems which sux :(

Damn that sucks bro.

Since you lived with the guy, why didn't you tell him to cash it?

Jolly.......I have something I use called a REGISTER.....look into it, they are free at the banks :sign:

Who's fault do you believe it is other than yours?? I mean you should balance your own checking account and keep tabs on your own finances, it isnt up to the person you wrote the check to he should be able to hold on as long as he wants, you should have written off the amount in your check ledger and you should KNOW that it is outstanding. I am not trying to insult you but in my opinion YOU are the one at fault not the guy who held the check so long, you should have known he had it and called him or just left the amount for the check in the account ie balanced the account.

Maybe he tried to cash it for those 9 months....................and it took him that long to find a teller that could READ the fricken thing. Dude, take a penmanship class or something :p

M. Gipson

penmanship is overrated, esp when there are computers :-P

yeah, my teachers hate my penmanship.

i used to be left handed, but was forced to change to right, so both hands suck as much.
