It's official. My chorus, the Texas Millionaires (for you newbies, it's a men's performing 4-part acapella..barbershop group), is headed to St. Petersburg, Russia August of '05 to put on about 5 shows.

We accepted the invitation from the Russian Arts Ministry and the International Fine Arts Society.

Why so long from now?

$$$

It'll run us a mere $2500 per person for a 9 day trip.

Anybody got an extra.....say........$125,000? :sign:

All kidding aside, if anyone can think of who our grant-writers should contact, please lemme know.

congratulations!!!!

you need to do a fundraiser concert!

Congratulations Mark to you and your group.

Undoubtedly, there will be several. We generally sing for $4-5K, our neighboring brothers over in Dallas, the Vocal Majority, don't go on for less than $10K...but they're 3X our size and on the next level from little ol' us.

But we're hoping that we CAN find the funding right in our own back yard. I understand that Fort Worth is 2nd only to NYC when it comes to 'charitable contributions'.

Sounds Great,Congrats. Maybe if you wear coke or pepsi shirts they will cover it, if not take a bunch of blue jeans to sell over there. :p Seriously though, Good Luck,,Sure it will all work out.

Mark,
That is great news how about a best hits CD that you guys could sell to make money?

Visiting Russia sounds like a great experience :D

Mark, never been to St. Petersburg, but Moscow and the surrounding countryside is beautiful, although a bit depressing in the winter. Do you have 50 guys in the chorus or is that supposed to be $25,000 per person?? Why is it so much? They must be putting you up at Western European owned hotels..LMAO!! Good luck! Oh and make sure you have a good host/interpreter. That can be VERY important. :)

Wow! Mark this will be the trip of a lifetime for you and the rest of the group. I'm green. Do you think there would be any cash to be had from selling CDs? Especially in conjunction with a concert? Maybe you already do this, I don't know but you could set up a table out front in the lobby or whatever selling CDs before and after the show. In any case, good luck with it!

Oh, and remember...in Soviet Russia, the internet logs on to YOU!

The CD is a viable avenue. We've only produced 1 and that was over 3 years ago. We also need to make a Christmas CD. Folks have been asking for that for years....as a side note on this one, we just got the music and after 2 rehearsals have nailed 'Mary Had a Baby'.... awesome arrangement.
It has befuddled me as to why we have not put out another cd...our baritone section leader has his own recording studio and I would bet anything we could strike a deal with someone to press the cd's for us for next to nuthin'...being a non-profit org and all.

Matt, you're correct.. 50 guys. HOPEFULLY, we'll be growing again with the news that we're headed to Russia in 2 years. We recently had a long-planned guest night a week after the last show..we've got 5 new member-candidates and a few more in the wings...this was without the Russia news.

It's taken us 4 years to go from 30 to 50 in size. I'm betting that we're headed to 70+ within the next 2 years. ;)

Ahh well, talk is cheap. ???
