Sure we all know the Coast Guard is just Navy-Light, and the Marines are actually a branch of the Navy (think I'm kidding? Ever consider what the term "Marine" means?!). Can you tell I served in the Navy?

Ok ok, all joking aside, let us know how you've served - and no fair asking you buddy to poll-pad. Only say you served if you earned the right to say it. :D

Dave ;)

We have a couple Navy guys aboard right now that we are taking in to fly home. We also completed a RAS in which I was highline captain. Definately a very dangerous evolution. So many things can go wrong. I was able to walk away from it with just a few bruises and a sore back ans hands. All my men fared better than I did. Took a good lashing as the knot in the end of a line passed between my inner arm and my rib cage at about 20 knots. We were instructed to hold fast so the rig master could cut the line. Well he never got the order to cut from the 1st LT. Our ship started an emergency break away and a lot of the guys dropped the line.Myself and 6 others were trying to hold tight so the rigger could get the gear and himself free. We got our asses pulled across the nonskid 20 fett until my fett hit our helo hanger tracks. I ordered the guys to let go, and I got caught with the buisness end of the knot on 2 inch line right on the inner bicep. The big type 1 life jacket saved me some bruises to the ribs. The knot got stuck in the chock. 2 guys were outboard of the line with their backs turned to the chock. I snatched them up by their life jackets over the line, just in time for the deck hand to cut the line to the fuel rig before it parted.
So that was my day. I get to goto bed in 2 hours(0340). I am beat. But I did get the time to sneak in a Torano Exodus robusto. Mmmm, good.

From May of 76' to May od 80', I was sailor in the Navy. Then I learned my lesson and joined the Army in March of 81'. I did 12 years in Germany, 2 years in Hawaii and finished up 20 year military career at the West Point Military Academy as the Non-Commissioned Officer in-Charge of all the warehouses which supported 4500 cadets, and another 2000 civilian and military support personnel. It was my best 2 years that I can remember while serving. I had 17 civilians working for me and anything I wanted on post I could get. Went to all the home Army football games and all the parties that went with them. I retired in March of 97' and have been enjoying civilian life now for the past 6 years. :D

I joined the Marines right outta high school 1983, I was originally in flight operations, but I proved to be a good swimmer, so my MOS changed to search and rescue swimmer. I joined the FMF in August 93 just in time to have fun on the beaches of Grenada in "Operation Urgent Fury". This was the last combat operation ever between US and Cubans. I was on the USS Guam apart of HMM-261, at that time and operating in the role of a door gunner aboard a CH-53 , I just want to say that this whole operation was a cluster f@#$. If anybody knows anything about there history they will know that this was one of the first operations with multi-branch's of the service trying to do one operation under a single commander and it got screwed up. I won't go into it in detail. Anyway after this I serverd in HMH-463 and HMM-262 helicopter squadron's in Kaneohe Bay Hawaii from 1984 until 1988, I have been on multiple West pac deployments and Med pac deployments, I got out early due to a death in the family and since then I have been doing what I do now.

When I graduated from college I lost my student deferment and enlisted in the Army in 1964. Cross specialist in CBR and demolition. No pretty stories. Got out in 1972 as a Spec 4 after a 4 year Reserve stint. Guess I am the old fart of this story line.

1983-86 - 0351 - Super Grunt - Anti-Tank Assault - DRAGONS!

Remember....The Navy is just the chauffers for the "real" fighting men...... ;)
