My Local Rotary club holds an annual casino night. My Idea is for raising money as a side note for my Daughters 12U softball teams trip to Las Vegas in September.

The tickets are $25 to the casino night which is inclusive of dinner and $3000 in fun bucks ( Bar tab is yours :) ). At the end of the night you can buy faffle tickets with the fun bucks for drawings for get-a-ways ( Hawaii, Mexico, and some cheaper coastal stays).
Now my idea is to bring some boxes of cigars to the party and sell them at a reasonal mark up ( won't be that bad to the donators, because I'll buy them somewhere that California Tabacoo taxes aren't involved ) and have a sign saying all proceeds go to the girls? What I'm asking is... if you knew that I bought cigars for... lets say $4... and I was selling them for $8. And you could get them for $6 at the local cigar store... but every dollar was going to the girls, would you get 1 or 2 to smoke while you were in attendance? Thus turning my $400 donation into $800 for the girls.

LMK your opinions.

None of this has been cleared yet. I still have to ask and see if they will let me. Just looking for some feed back.

TIA

Absolutely  Every Rotary Auction/Fundraiser I've ever been to everyone in attendance knows the whole point is to raise money.

As we all know, casinos mark up cigars 400% never mind just doubling the price :0 and people still buy 'em.

If it was for the kids I'd get a handful! You might also want to consider a donation "glove" or "helmet"... kind of like a tip jar and have a sign or posterboard that explains why you're doing the fund raiser. Be sure to include lots of pictures of the kids! You'd be surprised at how many non-herfers would be willing to throw a few bucks towards the kids or throw their change in there after buying cigars. Good luck with your fundraiser Bruddah!

Aloha,

Wade

Sounds like a great idea Michael!

Thanks for the replys my friends!

Wade ... your idea of pictures and a tip helmet for the non-herfers is awsome! That way everyone attending can help not just the smokers. The pictures do make it more personal I think.
I'll make a picture collage and place a batting helmet in front saying "We thank you for your danations and support" if they give me the go ahead. Thanks for the "tip" bro! :p

What exactly is a danation? :sign:

Sounds like a great idea and Wade's suggestion is definately one that I feel will get you quite a bit more danations

I'd charge $10 a stick, and see if you get any takers. Think about the crappy, dried out cigars that are available for sale at golf courses, bars, etc. I'd think that if you have any cigar smokers, $10 wouldn't be a bad price for a decent cigar. Great idea.

All this time ... notariety... and fame at CP Fast, and you still can't read typo? Come on .. get with it man! ;) :p

I would look into geting some cigars with a specialty band IE: "It's A Boy/ Girl"
Maybe you could get some printed up with Rotary Logo and something like the name of the softball team on it, just my .02

What a great idea! I think it would work really well. Parents and other supporters of schools get fleeced for sweaters, magazines, and god knows what else. Of course, marked-up cigars are even better since they do more for you than any magazine subscription or jar of popcorn ever could!. My experience has generally been that people will fork over the dough if it's for the right cause.

at Corona Cigar they can laser engrave any cigars they got with whatever you want, if thats what your looking for

We have done it before for other benefits I am involved in here in Seattle. Bidding on ISOMs is always interesting especially when its for a good cause.

A big thumbs up Michael ;)
