What is your favorite Tatuaje?

Fyodor said:
So I figured I would ask you guys which Tatuaje you preferred, tally the results and then try it. Which one is the best?

Of course this will be truely subjective, but so far I have tried the Noellas, Reserva J21, Gran Cojonu, & the Cojonu 2003. I have a Reserva SW sitting in the Humi chillin for the weekend, but haven't smoked one yet. So, with only having tried those, the Gran Cojonu was my favorite with the Reserva J21 in a close second. They are a very different flavor profile from each other though; the J21 is more spicy and the Gran Cojonu is more buttery. But both rocked.

Enjoy,

Well so far the Regios are getting the most votes, which is fine because I like Corona Gordas. I like Headstrong's choice of the Reserva SW though, that was one I wanted to try and I trust his opinion as I know he is a true "Pepin" connoisseur unlike the rest of you heathens. :p And again, I apologize for not thinking AF products are the very best in the world. I think it's due to my preference for Cuban and Nicaraguan cigars and not so much the Fuente's fault. Well I'm going to the shop Tuesday so keep those suggestions coming!

eh, I can find you cigars from Nicaragua and Cuba that you'll dislike as well.

I think what Harris meant was that Tatuaje shouldn't be compared to Fuente or Padrón until they are able to deliver consistent quality and blends for years. That's actually quite true, I think. Despite my love for a number of Tatuaje cigars, they are a relative newcomer. It's not easy to maintain consistent quality and blends for years, or decades, in the case of the aforementioned companies.

Still, I have faith in Pete... and am very much looking forward to the 2006 Cojonu belicoso. Cabaiguans are also very, very nice cigars, IMHO.

No need Moki, I've already found some on my own. I appreciate the offer though. :whistling:

I agree with you guys completely, I was just expressing my enthusiasm for these cigars, though perhaps in an inappropriate way.

Not at all, Fyodor. Your expression of enthusiasm is completely valid because you're sharing a thought, feeling, musing, preference or some other aspect of your beliefs or experiences. And I hope you'll continue to do so.

TM and Moki are making a point regarding a specific aspect of your post but they are doing so by construing what you said as an assertion of knowledge, which it is not. Knowledge, defined as justified true belief, is subject to scrutiny of evidence. Your expression of enthusiastic preference is not.

That said, Moki is on target with what he says, IMO. Performance over the long term is certainly something to value, but this in no way diminishes the quality of the cigars we can experience today.

Love what you smoke and smoke what you love...you seem to have taken this to heart!

Thanks Wilkey. I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. I might be wrong sometimes but I feel I must be true to my own tastes and preferences and not just regurgitate what others with better palates or more experience say. I certainly don't claim to be an expert and TM and Moki brought up very valid points I can't deny.

I never have had or seen, will hopefully grab one in the future.
I sorta a Fuente, Padron whore. I believe most of us are, and u guys say these are better?

Nah, just me.

I'm sorta odd in that respect, Cletus. I am a dedicated Padron whore but I don't care for Fuente stuff at all and that includes everything up to an including most OpusX and Añejos.

That said, I thought the ligero and viso-wrapped Cojonus to be excellent cigars. The Reserva J21 shows amazing potential and I have yet to smoke a Unicos or any of the smaller vitolas.

I would smoke a Tatuaje (or a Oneoff) over a Fuente product any day but neither could induce me to give up a Padron.

I wouldnt say better since AF and padron are in their own class when it comes to cigars. Just the Tatueje's are above most put out on the market. I love cigars and cigars love me. I'm interested to see how tatueje's do in the long run because they have some real winners right now. Is it luck? If it a fluke...Only time will tell but I'm betting its neither. All skill.

Had the Reserva J21 and it was excellent a great stick for the buck and yet again one of Brad(SB) choices, and once again he was right. I hate it when he's right!

Saw them (3 vitolas) today at a local B&M but the price put me off.
That is, untill I looked at this thread.
I'll have to back there and and check 1 or 2 out.

Producing a consistent cigar year after year is the tough part for any mfg. There have been plenty of people who have come out with some great stuff their first go around ( Bahia comes to mind ) but subsequent releases haven't been of the same calibur.

I hope Tat is able to produce the quality they have exhibited this go around year after year but only time will tell.

As far as not liking Fuente cigars, that is obviously an indivdual choice.

Here is a list of cigars they make for themselves and for others. Out of all these cigars there should be something you can enjoy I would hope. My personal favorite is the Don Carlos line of cigars, I smoke more of these than any other.

Arturo Fuente green band

Black band Sungrown Chateaus

Hemingway

Don Carlos

Opus X

Anejo

Ashton VSG

Ashton Cabinets

Ashton Aged Maduros

Ashton regular line

Diamond Crown

Diamond Crown Maximus

Cuesta Rey Cabinet

Cuesta Rey Centrofino

Cuesta Rey Centinial

Cuesta Rey Stanfords Cameroon

The ones I stock and smoke on a regular basis are the following.

Don Carlos

Hemingway

Diamond Crown natural

Opus X

All crap if you ask me! Just kidding. I sure hope they make the Don Carlos Lancero a regular production cigar, I would love to try one of those.

I have tried a few of the Tatuaje cigars several months ago but never gave them a 2nd thought. Now I am seeing so much about them. I will have to seek some more of them out and give them another try.

I agree with you on the consistency and longevity issue.

As for Fuente, it has literally been years since I've smoked a Don Carlos and it may be time to try it again. No doubt my sensitivities have developed in those intervening years.

I do enjoy the three brands above but have avoided the Diamond Crown and Maximus so far because of comments about their "Opus-ness."

I had a Diamond Crown and thought it was literally a dog rocket. Was one of the worst cigars I had the misfortune to smoke at the time. It was a bad enough experience I havent had one since. I may get another one but I hope they are better now than they was back then.

It was a Robusto #1. I still have the empty box and I got it in 1999. It didnt burn good and was high maintenance. It was also mild and just plain flat. But I had to try it and I have no idea how long it sat in the Humidor at the B&M when I got it. My friend smoked one as well and his opinion mirrowed mine.
