What SMOKING music are you listening to? (2025)

I don't know why, but I started watching/listening to all sorts of covers of this song last night on the YouTubes. This one stuck out, because buskin' ain't easy... It's not the best cover I've ever heard, but for one guitar and two voices through a suboptimal sound system in the middle of a sidewalk, you can tell they would kill it in the studio if they ever tried.

That is London AFAIK but the girl isn't English.

Music starts around 5:00 even. Colin Hay does a great acoustic arrangement.

I don't know who she is, but she has duetted with Colin Hay a few times, so I guess she's famous.

This dude probably does the best version of Colin's acoustic arrangement I've found. The Just-For-Men is a bit distracting, though...

I've mentioned this before. It is said the worst concert pairing was Jimi Hendrix opening for The Monkeys - I missed that one but was at #2. SRV opening for Men at Work on Oct 12th 1983 at the Mercer Auditorium Seattle. Never been a big fan of them since, not because they didn't do a decent show but because the poppy teeny audience couldn't handle what Stevie was laying down,

I can't even begin to figure that pairing out. Label, maybe?

I was going to post the first single Bob Seger was ever on - The Decibels - The Lonely One from 1961 but I can't find it on the tube. So here is his first regional hit. East Side Story (made it to #3 in Detroit) and his first single with his new band Bob Seger & The Last Heard from January 1966. I then went with and his first single to dent the national charts The Bob Seger System's Ramblin' Gamblin' Man (in mono!) released in October 1968 and getting to #17 on the Hot 100.

Class dismissed. There will be a test!

You can hear bits of "Gloria" if you listen close.

Bonus
Most people don't know he co-wrote this too.
