What the frick is wrong with kids these days

So I had my kids at the park this afternoon. A groop of three very young men were shooting hoops. They took a break to fire up a bowl, within eyesight of my kids (their first mistake). So (my how kids change attitudes) I called the cops. While waiting to see if the cops showed, I kept an eye on them. When the cops showed, being inclined to paranoia, I watched one of them shove something down to nuzzel up to his balls. When the cops got there, they claimed no knowledge, and submitted to a light pat down. Having found nothing, I got the eye of one of the cops, and told him where to look. Sure enough, there is the pipe all covered in ball sweat (mistake #2 lying to the cops).

Now for the mother of all stupid mistakes. All three of them are getting ready to head to various colleges on scholarship. If they had been arested, they would have lost them. They stand to lose it all, and they're stupid enough to do it in public. Somehow, I don't see these three being scholar athletes. Here's hoping their respective schools don't drug test, I'm not in the mood to support these three idiots on my tax dollars.

While I don't agree with the drug czars that Pot is bad for you, as long as it remains illegal, pleanty of harm occurs in the supply chain. What ever happened to getting baked at home before going out to shoot hoops?

If I were one who would smoke pot, I would do it in my backyard. If myself or my friends did smoke pot and wanted to be high but were not at home, I think we could at least make it to our car. This is, of course, completely hypothetical! :D


Edit to say: Depending on your state, I doubt they got in any trouble at all. Honestly, I've known plenty of kids, friends, relatives, etc, who have been caught with differing amounts of weed on them. One of my friends got caught with an ounce and a bowl in school, and got a week long suspension. Nothing on his perm record besides that, and no legal action. Also, I am not aware of colleges that drug test simply for admission to the school. But I am a young kid, what do I know?
 
Judging from the behavior of scholar athletes at the two state universities here in Iowa, I would say their behavior is right on par. I'm not sure where the attitude of entitlement is first implemented, but it is becoming more and more appearant in younger athletes. Sadly it seems as though many scholar athletes don't value the free education they are being handed but rather view college as a barely tolerable stepping stone on their way to the pros. I don't think that college coaches are being realistic enough with these kids when they are recruiting. I'm not sure of the percentage of college athletes that make the pros but it has to be in the single digit numbers and of those the average career is only 3-5 years. So I think we need to start placing a greater emphasis on the free education aspect rather than saying you have a chance to play as a freshman and move on to the pros after that. I get the feeling though that the kids you encountered are indicitive though in that they won't know what they've squandered until they feel it running down their leg.

I completely agree with the sentiment that if you're going to do it, you could at least be intelligent enough to walk away from the families and small children. Even though it's not a harmful drug it IS still illegal, and riling up a bunch of parents is a great way to get the cops called on you, as they obviously found out.
 
NCAA Div I and II athletes are subject to "random" drug tests. I don't know about DIII and others.

That being said, the "random" is in quotes because every college athlete I knew who got tested knew about it in plenty of time to make sure the test was clean.

After a bunch of morons like the ones you described took over the basketball courts in my neiborhood, i took the sawsall to the poles and that was the end of them. The little kids were forced out and the crowd was getting older. Not in my neighborhood! :angry:

Exactly...same thing in my old neighborhood. Only difference was, after they cut down the hoop poles, they cut it in pieces and beat the crap out of the punks that caused the whole mess to begin with. The message got to the other play grounds very quickly....harsh, but effective.

That's the Italian way I guess.

I played DIII hockey and we only had drug tests coming if we made the playoffs. But if these morons are going off to school on some type of athletic scholarship then they're are not playing DIII since those are not offered at that level.
