What's your latest project?

Well, my wife spent almost a year working with an architect on a home design and plans (I'm here to tell you - that ain't cheap!), then she decided she might just want to buy an existing house. So after looking at almost every house for sale in the greater Birmingham area, over a period of about three months, she finally found a plan she liked that a builder already has!

So we are about to start building that house - hopefully in 4 to 6 weeks. I learned early on to just stand back and let her make up her own mind. My only requirements - wine cellar and walk-in humidor! :D

I think I will put the original set of custom plans in the safe - they may be the most expensive sheets of paper I own!

xraydoc1,

You'd be surprised how much that peace of mind, knowing she's found exactly what she wants, is worth! My wife and I are in the process of evaluating and re-evaluating some plans, as well as re-thinking the land that we bought, and right now my attitude is that it's all worth it to know in the end that we've got exactly what we want.

Here's the plans we're going to build. We've been making some changes, adding some square footage, as well as another garage stall, and excavating a corner of the basement for a walkout. Plus of course a walk-in wine cellar with space for a "Tower of Power" humi.

BTW, are you a radiologist? That's been my guess from the username. My wife's an ob/gyn, and works with radiology a bunch, everything from ultrasounds to gyn onc stuff, I think...

Enjoy the new house, and post pics when you get some!

And my other summer project is considering re-joining the workforce. They've got an admissions job open at Gustavus that I'm going to be looking into.

Yep. Member of a 12 partner group. We offer everything from plain old chest radiograph interpretation to angioplasty and neurointerventional procedures. Indeed, we get to see the ob/gyn's every day -seems like it is always at about 2am - looking at a pelvic ultrasound on some pregnant girl!

Hey you guys building houses--pay special attention to the HVAC equipment that goes into those. My friend Bruce who came and put in a new AC coil for me today was talking about how he'll get called to a $5million house in Potomac, go to the utility closet, and find a builder's grade 10 or 12 SEER unit in there. You should spend just as much care choosing and installing the comfort equipment as the foundation, decor, etc. May be a good place to do some research as the man, while the woman figures out what layout she wants and how many BRs, etc.

I know of a great website, it's a forum about...you guessed it..HVAC. Lots of pros post on there. I've learned a lot.

The neurointerventional stuff is the fun stuff right, like a video game? Well, I suppose it is someone's life on the line...

My wife has an interest and has published a bunch of research on ectopics, mostly treatment, methotrexate (sp?) success rates and all the factors that relate. Lucky for you, you get to go home after you're done reading that ultrasound at 2am!

Allright, I'm done threadjacking here. Oh wait, it's my thread!

Yeah - sorry for the threadjack. Well, the only problem is, there is a whole line of other docs behind the ob/gyn with THEIR 2, 3, 4, 5, 6am cases I have to look at!

I was going to post a picture of my latest project, but I don't have a spot to upload it. Anyway it's a 50,000 sf fruit and vegetable processing plant. I work for a large general contractor and travel around the country building these. So it's not my home project, but it's the only project I've got going on.

Seems like this project is taking forever! Guess I'll have to fire up a fine stoogie and relax a bit!

I put some molding and white fencing around the deck in the back. It give's it that extra look the wife wanted. Also working on catching a ground hog or hedge hog, what ever the hell it is. He's eating the damn tomato plants in the garden.

hand--made birthday present for my son's 5th b-day to offset all the junk he will get. I know it's not much compared to some of the projects listed here, but it was fun :)

Yep, a long pointy stick designed to poke at people in the hands of a 5 year old. Sounds good to me. :whistling: ???

Looks good though, nice work!

My latest project started last week while I was on vacation:

We just contracted for replacement of our baseboard radiators with brand new, two-tier, high-output Slantfin baseboard radiators. They'll be here in eight weeks. In the meantime, I have to raise a bunch of electrical outlets to clear the new ~14" units.

We're also makin' noise about finally starting a remodel on the master bath...new tile, new vanity, and paint.

My coolerdor is coming together, at last. The shelves are in, almost 2 pounds of beads are in their spiffy window screen frame, and the humidity is stabilizing ever so slowly, being monitored by a wireless weather sensor. All I need to do now is mount is on some sort of base and perhaps paint it.
