In 2 weeks my wife and I are traveling overseas stopping in London to break the trip for 2 days as we usually do. Last year, I smoked at coffee shops and pubs.

What's the deal now? I know the UK introduced some new legislation. Has anyone been there recently and if so, where did you smoke?

Thanks.

Brian

I'd pm jfields about this Brian, I'm sure he knows of some places.

My wife is from there, and we try to go once a year to visit family, with me missing last year due to a changeover in employment. :(

Sadly, even the famed cigar shops of London have been forced to display the smoking ban signs inside their stores. I have not really scoped out the situation myself, but I hear it's not good as far as finding a place to find where you can smoke indoors.

Here is a link I found where it appears you have to enjoy outside.Smoking in London

Also, here is the number to a tobacconist in London who I am sure would be glad to help you. He is also a good gentleman on Mount street to visit for some aged goodies, if you do not mind the exchange rate. (somehow, I doubt you will  ).

Dial 1010987 before the number for three cents a minute then 01144 for the international country code, then 20-7499-4866 for Desmond Sautters shop (1010987011442074994866).
He's a really nice gentleman that we both love to go see. I'm sure if there is a way to circumvent the smoking ban, he knows about it, and would love to point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps.

Thanks John.

It's going to be weird NOT seeing smokers in pubs and coffee shops. WTH is this world coming to? Second hand smoke, what a load of BS.

If you go to se Desi, ask him to take you downstairs in the cellar to have a look inside his cupboards.

This sounds like a trip to remember, take some pictures Brian. Have a good time, i'm sure you'll have a very enjoyable time. :)

Brian, the only place I found to smoke while I was in London was in JJ Fox's downstairs lounge. Apparently, the exception to the rule of indoor smoking is that cigar shops are allowed to have their customers "sample" the cigars. Of the more well known cigar shops in London, Davidoff had the best selection. The Dunhill shop had some Punch DCs from the early 90s, but the most interesting part of the visit was when the shop keeper showed me a box of 1957 Partagas Dunhill Seleccion Suprema from the owner's locker that was originally owned by Yul Brynner.

A friend of mine is there now. He said he was in Harrod's...not sure if he just bought there or was able to smoke!?

Enjoy the trip!

Smoking in Harrods? Unlikely. Unless they have a smokers lounge that I don't know about.

I can smoke outdoors in parks but this time of year the weather is terrible in London. Gary, please ask your friend what he is doing, assuming he smokes cigars.

Banned inside, might find a heated pub area outside. You cannot even smoke at JJ Foxs. Have fun!

I sent him a note.

I also found this - linky.

You may be able to send an email to some of these shops - asking about smoking.

When I was in London last July, I was allowed to smoke in JJ Fox's. I'm not sure if the ban has extended to the "sampling" since then.
