I was out of town this week, doing some topographic survey work in a tailings pond for an abandoned mine. I had my assistant with me, a contract employee who was there to operate a chainsaw to cut trees and brush so I'd have clear lines of sight. On our third day out there while he was cutting, a branch got kicked up at him and caught him in the eye. The injury didn't look critical, so I packed him up and we drove back into town. The nursing station was closed so I had to call an ambulance for some medical attention. They ended up taking him to the nearest hospital, 120 km away. Later that evening I had to take him back to Winnipeg to see an eye specialist. 12 hours later I was able to get in contact with my boss, who took over staying with him and getting him set up in a hotel room. I don't know the extent of the injury, but he seemed in decent spirits today.

Here's hoping for a speedy and full recovery.

Thoughts definitely going out, hoping everything's okay with his eye! I used to be a bleach range supervisor in a textile plant, was mixing up the bleach and had caustic acid pop in my eye. Won't go into the details, but that was one of the worst things I"ve ever had to deal with in my life.

I had to deal with a metal sliver in my eye a long time ago. Was not fun. Thoughts and prayers go out to your co-worker.
