Here it is 4:30 am and I am sitting here in huge pain. For the past few days I have had this problem with the left side of my jaw. At first I thought it was an abscessed tooth, pain in the lower jaw back left, swelling of the lower joweel and a huge sore throat.
I went to the dentist yesterday and exrays showed nothing. He said there is definately some sort of infection but nothing with the teeth. He prescribed amoxocillin and Vicodin. I took two Vicodin last night about 8 then another one about 10 with a glass of Mcallan 12. I went to bed last night about 12:30 still in pain but nowhere near as bad. I woke this morning at 4 with agonizing pain. I can hardly turn my neck. What the hell? I feel like I am going to die.

Quit shoving large objects into your mouth and your jaw should quit hurting.

My wife (a nurse) said that it could also be an infected lymph node, or maybe a dislocated jaw. You would probably know if it was a dislocated jaw though. :whistling:

Do you have a fever or any other symptoms?

Matt,

Definitely see an MD. It sounds like your issue is beyond the skills of the Dentist to address, and there is no reason for you to be in pain longer than is necessary.

And make sure you get plenty of zinc, either through diet or supplementation.

Hope you are feeling better Matt!

I had similar pain, albeit not one that cause me to not move my neck, but one that came out of nowhere and affected most of my teeth and part of my face on one side. Turned out I needed a root canal. Now this was easy for my dentist to identify after telling him what I was feeling but I think only because the pain seemed early on to be coming from a specific tooth, one that had previous work done on it and had already had a crown on it.

I would definitely see a doctor but I would rule out a tooth type issue, only because the pain I had was actually in a different part of my mouth than where the tooth was. Same side, but a lower tooth yet my upper teeth, jaw and most of that side of my face just killed. I couldn't sleep, eat....do much of anything until they took care of it.

I HIGHLY recommend avoiding alcohol with the Vicodin since it contains acetaminophen and if you're in the realm of pain that's having you take 3 doses within 2 hours, you're taxing your liver heavily. Acetaminophen already has a small therapeutic window so it's sort of easy to OD on it, and alcohol converts the acetaminophen into a more dangerous metabolite that can cause liver failure.

I have been sore all day and have taken only 1 Vicodin and I have had a total of 5 doses of amoxocillin. I think it might be subsiding a little. If it isn't better in the morning I'm going to the doc.

Thanks for the well wishes fellas.

I'm no doc, but it sounds like a lymph node. Definitely get to the doctor sooner than later bro.

I'll bet if it was your crank that was ailing you'd have been to the doctor already. Would you trust your dentist with your dick?

Doc.

I had something similar about ten years ago. Went to the dentist and they couldn't find anything wrong. So, I went to my MD and it ended up I had the first of many sinus infections. They don't go away without antibiotics. I finally had surgery to correct it about four years ago. Haven't had a problem sence.
Good luck
Tom

Thanks guys. I'm sitting in the waiting room of the ER.

Any chance on getting anybody local coming down for a herf? Looks like its going to be quite a wait!

Souldog? Gavin? Mike? :sign:

Dont mix alcohol and Vicodin =[ They are both CNS depressants and its dangerous to mix them.

Also get well soon :D hope its nothing too serious!
