A newbie asking about a new humidor from the experts

TLDR: how much should a newbie with two jaridors (holds ~15-20 cigars a piece) spend on a decent humidor that can have scratches or dents and where should he start digging? If the answer is cheaphumidors then when do they typically post the damages humidor? Just care about good seals.

So, just joined recently to the forum. It is the first cigar related outlet I’ve ever joined. I started into cigars a few months ago and I am loving the experience and I look forward to the experience of a cigar twice a week (wife’s rules, happy wife happy life). At the beginning I purchased:
two amazon 13$ jaridors
Two bovida 69% packs

One jar is for flavored cigars (mainly a few coffee ones with Dominican coffee stores in there and another for my trials and samples.

So, my normal jaridor is starting to get a little crowded (my fault cause I am thirsty to try new cigars). MY QUESTION: how much should I spend on a new humidor?

I don’t care about knicks, scratches, etc. I just care about a good seal and good wood that won’t warp.

I know about cheaphumidors, but I never see anything under their discounted “abused” section. And I have no idea what a “good” humidor costs. I’ve seen them on amazon for 35$ and I’ve seen them on cheaphumidors for 70$.

I have ready a few posts about checking on eBay for humidors. But what should I look for to make sure I don’t get a box of sawdust?

Thanks!

P.s.- going to try the newbie trade soon as well!

Go with a tupperdor to start off with, they are a cheap way to go, easy to maintain and you can build up the stash as you learn what you like most. Once you have a feel for what you like most the you start to upgrade to a coolidor or wineador. Point is to start off simple then move up, it will cost less and be less of a headache in the long run.

Great idea about the tupperdor. Didn’t even think about that as an option. I will start researching tupperdors. For wineadors what is a decent brand or two in your opinion?

Absolutley agree... if, down the road you find yourself serious about the "hobby" (thats what I tell my wife :) ) you can start getting serious about your humidor.

“Hobby” has really worked wonders as a descriptive term. She definitely likes that more than “life changing, next to most calming experience ever” by a long shot.

It doesn't hurt to get larger than what you think you need. Cigars have the ability to multiply. If you think you'll only keep 100 cigars on hand then get something that can hold a lot more.

Will do. Also I can hide a Tupperware container a little better than a jaridor!

No worries, this is probably the most difficult hobby to hide due to the smell and time it takes to smoke one.
The time is one of the most enjoyable parts of the experience so far for me. And with the tupperdor I will sick with lower bovida packs for sure. Thanks for all the help!

I doubt it was the smell/time it takes to enjoy one that he was referring to. I'm sure it was.........."Yeah, I got these as a BOMB or I won these in a contest" vs "Well honey, I went overboard on cigarbid and spent $100".

Not that I've used that excuse ;)

That's just devious.
