When Will Cuba Invest in Cigars?

If we've heard this story once, we've heard it a dozen times over the last five or six years.

'Rains & storms cause damage to cigar industry in Cuba.'

Come on man! When will this country take the growing, curing, production, and distribution of cigars seriously? Whenever there is a tropical storm or hurricane, the storm destroys the curing barns...or floods the tobacco fields...the high wind rips up the tobacco plants...or causes destruction to the factories...etc...etc...etc. SOS every year.

To add insult to injury, people in the know were raving about the latest harvest as being one of the best in many years. I heard statements like, "I can't wait until 2019-2020 for this year's tobacco to start seeing it's way into the market".

When will they finally invest a few dollars to secure the safety of the factories, curing barns, and storage facilities? After sugar, it the second largest export of the island that is growing by double digits each year due to the Chinese market exploding and more CC seeing their way into the US...yet, the industry still looks like something described in a Hemingway novel or a B&W picture of the 40s.

Smh....

Cuban manufactures are not ignorant people, they understand they have or are producing a produce there is a demand for.

Then their is the argument by the manufactures who produce great Cigars in places like Nicaragua, Honduras, Dominican Republic, etc. they or their representitives are likey to tell you why their product from "Cuban" seeds are a good as, or better then real Cuban Cigars.

IMHO the one thing the people growing Tabacco in Cuba have that no one else in the World has is Cuban soil, and that is just the dirt in Cuba. That is like a Sour Dough Starter that dates back over 150 years and is put in ever back of dough making bread today.

IMHO these is something about Cuban Dirt or Soil. Like their is something about a batch of Sour Dought Bread Dought with some of it content have root back 150 years or more.

JMHO

Yes I currently infrequently do enjoy a stick or two from Cuba, most produce big smiles on my face. Like the pro baseball player get who hits a grand slam HOMERUN.

Well Cuba has no need to invest as they sell what they can produce. People forget Cuba trades with everyone but the U.S.A.

These other countries who trade with Cuba have what Cuba might want to produce more, maybe they the Cubans people are in their UTOPIA.

Happy with the way life is.

I gotta tell you, I try reading your posts but lose interest while trying to decode bad spelling and grammar so I quit halfway through. Just thought I’d let you know. Maybe you don’t care about members reading the whole post. That’s perfectly fine. If that’s the case then save yourself the effort.

I've been to Cuba and can't say I know much about it. What I do know is that they have bigger issues than the tobacco industry. I know it is probably their second largest cash crop behind sugar. The lack of basics is truly sad, I went to a store and it was almost bare. Even at the few state supermarkets there are shortages and people have to go from place to place to get the staples of life.

One of the locals were explaining that the crop of oranges went to waste that year because they didn't have the currency to buy plastic bottles. So they weren't able to to make orange juice for the season. The same was with all the other tropical fruits.

I have to agree with you!

Well spelling & prefect grammer were not my forte. I actually read what I wrote, gave it to my step grandson to read, who's IQ is over 155. He said "I understand your point".

Kid is too young to join MENSA, but would make the cut.

I’m just going to ignore the vanilla non-take and move on.

I’ve only been in the game for a little while, but as someone who primarily only smokes cc’s, it does seem like a trend to hear good production/bad production but I wonder if anyone has noticed a distinct difference in taste? Like, I realize the veteran smokers on the sub definitely feel production value has gone down in the last 20-40 years, but it seems like half the time a bad box is blamed on Cuba being Cuba (from a quality control perspective) and the other half the time it’s ruined crops and bad weather. I just figured these articles were true but only part of the picture, making them read more like training camp in the NFL (all smoke and mirrors) and less like actual data points that have an impact (beyond the clear difficulties to get certain Marcas because of shortages and demand). Could be I’m very wrong. Just my thoughts.

*Cough* Bullshit *Cough*
Mensa has accepted members as young as two.

Stop overloading your hummingbird ass with your alligator mouth.

Really how do the test the brightness, or IQ of a 2 year old, I'm interested in that statement?

Those are great stories and good for your grandson, I was merely making the point that I didn’t want to use my “decoder ring” to try and figure out the intended words. I was attempting to figure out what you might have been trying to say, including all of the fine points which go beyond “understanding your point”. Perhaps there were none, but I did not read the entire post. Simply not worth the energy when there are a plethora of other posts which are well written.

Furthermore, whilst a comparison between me and a Mensa member may be flattering indeed, I’m certain that was not the intention. I am offended by the comment that I am somehow more of a dullard than a young child.

They start by having them correct your grammar...

Well I was hope for an intelligent answer not more nastiness. Guess I should not have expected you were just blowing smoke.

Again, the condescending attitude toward a friend of mine should have remained unwritten. Perhaps you should consider limiting your posts to cogent, pertinent, lucid and well written thoughts.
