What's on your plate today?

Second Christmas eve with the GF. Cooked up some prime rib eyes, roasted brussel sprouts, and roasted red potatoes. 2010 Clos Du Val cab to drink. Selection of desserts to finish. Merry Christmas, all!
Funny! We cook that exact meal on our Big Green Egg all the time. The veggies are always done in foil packets. You could never make it look outstanding with plating, but man it taste so good when the potatoes are done to the right crispness.

Working in IT I'm with a lot of folks from India, and over the years I've taken a deep dive into the food. Only started cooking it in earnest the last couple of years, and my teammates know I want brutal honesty...compare me to how your grandma makes it and let it rip. Tomorrow I'm taking in some traditional snacks I've been working on. Dal Kachori...a spicy lentil mixture stuffed into a flour/ghee/water dough kind of like you'd fill a Chinese dumpling, but then rolled out to flatten them and then fried at a low temp till golden. They are kind of a pain but damn they are good. Kansas City has a pretty amazing amount of great Indian food, but you don't see these around much.

Today was Mrs Nihon's birthday, which is a good excuse for me to try new dishes. For breakfast this morning I tried my hand at shrimp and grits. It was a little too much cheese, but otherwise, I was happy with it.

Dinner was sous vied duck breast, beet gnocchi in brown butter sauce with fried sage, and blanched baby bok choy. The duck is something I've done several times, but the gnocchi was an experiment and took the most time to make. It made way too much for the two of us, but it was a nice side dish.

Every time I make gnocchi I make way too much, ironically it's always what my wife requests for her birthday (along with smoked prime rib). Good news is it's freezes really well.

I wish I was Amy.... Not in the weird sort of way you may be thinking.

We love gnocchi, but I've never made it. I might have to try. That looks delicious.

Too much cheese? I...just...don't really understand. What means this?
You can never have too much Pecorino Romano Cheese as far as I’m concerned. I’ve never understood why Parmesan gets so much more attention.

We ate so much food in Belgium and London. I didn’t take pictures of everything this time, but let me tell you, we ate like Kings.

Wow! I need to put Europe on my bucket list. I blew through England last May, but we didn't have time to look around or eat anything other than what I could find by the airport.
