So sitting on my porch this evening, I look up and see this on the screen. When it was alive , 1.5-2" long, was around the size of 2-2.5 carpenter bees.

Its demise was 5 minutes after spraying it.

Can anyone id this thing? Murder hornet?

Almost looks like a Cicada Killer.
I am with scap. It’s a cicada killer. Nothing to worry about. Check your yard for dirt piles

Doesn't look like enough black on the back for cicada killer.

Been looking at pic online for an hour, looks closest to a European Hornet.

Maybe I'll take a trip to the game commission tomorrow.

I'm looking at Euro Hornets, and agree it looks like one.

European Hornet. Definitely not a Cicada Killer. They look way different than that example. The Asian Hornets have a more pronounced yellow head and not brownish red like yours.
