Zippo Lighter Inserts

Nice purchase! There are a lot of inserts out there and finally zippo came out with one.

The zippo insert is top notch - take a look at removing the bottom plate and re-adjusting the flame adjust wheel. From the factory they have this stop collar around it and max is actually about half way.
I think the Z-plus insert is probably the best next one - I have the double flame and its a bit different than the zippo double where they come to a nice point.
And then the vector thunderbirds are probably last - just too inconsistent on how they fit in different zippo cases.

Do they run out of fuel fast? I haven't been impressed with mine.

They do run out pretty quickly. May get like 6 cigars out of it before it starts to sputter. The z-plus has a clear reservoir and it uses this sponge mechanism in the tank - the z-plus lasts around 10 cigars. There's just not a lot of room in that form factor for a lot of fuel.

I blamed mine on being too cold since I was using it while snowboarding, but just went and filled it up, purged, and still isn't wanting to light. Old fuel could be the problem too, or maybe just got a dud.

How has yours worked @kann ?

If your not getting a spark trying moving the little igniter closer to the fuel spout thingy.

It sparks, just doesn't light most of the time. When it does, the jets don't burn the same and the putter out. Thinking more it's old fuel that is the problem, though it works fine in the Old Boy?

There's a video out there on youtube of taking the bottom plate of and removing this collar there is on the fuel adjustment wheel. When it comes from the factory, "max" open on the fuel adjustment is really like half.

Not my video - no affiliations.

Confession time: I had to buy a replacement torch insert, because stupid TSA took it from me on the return home from Hawaii last year. :( They were about to take the entire lighter, and I was going to throw down with the dude. I was able to finally get someone to show him that they insert came out and the Zippo case was just a harmless piece of metal. I kept the case, and they disposed of the torch. Bastards.

Anyway, I bought a replacement, but my experience is much the same as others -- very short flame lifespan between refills, and it gets emotional when the weather cools down. I use my trusty creme brulee torch at home that I only seem to fill once a month, or so, and the Zippo is now my "show off lighter" that I take with me if I'm going to meet a friend or something of the sort.

I have the Z-Plus 2.0 in my zippo type lighter and haven't had any of these problems. I have used it all year round, and have not had any temperament problems with it. It also seems like I get really good life out of a fill, I don't see any difference between my insert and other dual flame torches I have.

Maybe there was a change in design from one version to another that screwed up the system.

Tried another purge, no dice. Might try getting new butane, but probably just going to upgrade to a 2.0.

If you have a precision screw driver set try THIS and see if this works.
:I have no affiliation to the video:

I do like the z-plus one though! It is a solid zippo insert.

The only issue with the insert is you can’t snap your fingers to light it! ;)

Does anyone remember the zippo torch they came out with years back? A buddy of mine was getting married in Vegas and he handed out engraved ones to the wedding party. It was pretty cool, of course mine ended up sliding out of my pocket in the back seat of a limo ride back to where we were staying. So I used it a grand total of one night. :( Would love to find another, but I know they were short lived..

It’s the zippo blu. Mine was polished chrome. I’ve tried to find it online but can online find brushed chrome. I know it’s not as good as the blu2 but more a sentimental factor. Pissed I lost it!
