Whiskey is really what i do, these were our consolation gets from todays drop

I am as well - with only one complaint. They tend to be a bit heavy on the hops. I love the taste of their hops, but sometimes (especially with Zombie Dust) it's only best when it's cold. I've found that when the beer warms up it is a bit bitter. And beer is really made to be drank at room temp. So I was a bit skeptical of their whiskeys. I do like the Dead Guy Ale whiskey (it's aged in their Dead Guys Ale barrels) - so I was expecting it to have the same kind of character. But it is not anything like that at all. Very surprised. All of the Three Floyds Whiskeys have been very well crafted. Aside from the usual bizarre artwork and names they're known for - this is not the usual Three Floyds "in your face" kind of drink. Very, very pleasant!

I think you have to go to the Three Floyds factory at their special event to get the Dark Lord. And I'm told they are also crafting a Dark Lord whiskey. I believe they will actually age the whiskey in the Dark Lord barrels. I'm curious having tried the Dead Guy Ale Whiskey. I have to think Three Floyd's version will be much better (even though the Dead Guy Ale Whiskey is not bad).

BTW - we've been seeing Zombie Dust quite a bit on tap at a lot of the taverns in the area. Every so often I do a pour - I personally think it is much better on tap than in the bottle.

I have come to appreciate Heaven Hill. I lucked out this year and found a retail bottle (not with the silly markup) of Parkers Heritage. And I really hate that I did - because it is so damn good that I will totally lose it when I drink my last dram of that...

Yes, Dark Lord Day is one day a year at the brewery, and not only do you have to go there you have to wait in crazy long lines and the event sells out in a blink of an eye. You get one 4 or 6 pack of bottles when I went and a lottery ticket. If you lottery ticket wins, mine did, you get one bottle of the special editions of dark lord such as vanilla bean. I think you had a 1 in 4 or 6 chance of winning. It's been too long for me to remember, and if it kept growing like I bet it did it may be quite different now. The food at the brewery is great too.

I'm gonna guess you have not been to the brewery based on your response as I feel it makes clear why their artwork is dark and edgy, why they have crazy hoppy beers etc. They are huge metal fans, they play hardcore metal at very loud volumes at all times or at least that is how it used to be. Dark Lord Day bands are crazy. If you don't mind the music, it's an awesome place to visit.

It's hard to believe how much they have grown. They even distribute to Massachusetts now and a good amount of their standard stuff. Most of their stuff is special editions and not very common though. I will have to research their whiskey and see if it's also available here. I am gonna go out on and limb and guess that the dark lord whiskey is a unicorn.

Love it when you find a bottle at a reasonable price without some crazy raffle process! It's very rare in my neck of the woods, and I don't buy that often so its even rarer that I stumble on it.

I travelled to Kentucky for work for a spell, and bought several nice bottles there along the way, mainly when at distilleries. That is pretty much all of my very limited bottle collection. Other than that I have mainly only tried harder to find things at a bar which of course is at a premium, but it's cheaper than a bottle! I even got on the wall of bourbon down there at a small restaurant and bar -- you had to drink 100 different bourbons. The expense account was nice.

I've visited Heaven Hill and Old Forester in Kentucky. They have good stuff. A 300+ year old inn in my town has an annual event with Old Forester that often features their Birthday bourbon along with others. I have been to it a few times. It's always a good time, but it's sharing bourbon with friends so hard not to be.

For my taste, I prefer almost anything Angel's Envy or Four Roses. I also enjoy Eagle Rare and Basil Hayden.

I'm mainly a beer person, and with all the price increases in bourbon, even before Covid, I don't drink it that often, especially since my local cigar bar closed.

4 roses are hit or miss, some of the recipes I like some not so much, I Prefer the OB recipes. Not a fan of angels envy or much finished product at all really.

I've done all 42 distilleries on the bourbon trail and the primary ones I have visited maybe a dozen times, but my favorite distillery to go to out of all of them is Jack Daniels.

Ohio is a control state so stores can't sale bottles over msrp.

I actually was clued into why room temp is where we should drink alcoholic beverages. My wine mentor told me that to hide the "defects" in wine, it is recommended the wine (mainly white wine) be chilled. I have noticed a significant difference between chilled and room temp white wines. So its not surprising it has the same kind of effect on beer. But another interesting factoid he shared with me - it's the opposite with sake. Sake chilled is the best way to serve it, and by warming up sake it hides the defects...
