How do you keep track of cigars?

I'm not OCD, but I have a tendency to be a bit organized and like to track things. When I started buying I put everything in a spreadsheet. I don't track each cigar, but when I discard a box I cross it off in the spreadsheet (strike-though, I don't delete), so I'm not TOO bad. So glad I did, now I can see how many tens of thousands of dollars I've spent on cigars

John @jfields As an analytical person who spent my professional life as a project/business management consultant, I would suggest a multi-phase plan. For now, until you find the perfect answer, I would use the spreadsheet I sent you (after we teak a couple things) and get the stuff documented. This will be the first step of inventory and provenance. Almost certainly, you will be able to import that data into a more interactive app which will be able to do "almost everything" you want.

I know how busy you are so you don't have time to look into what Rod @Rod is doing with his idea but I have a feeling it might be close to what you need.

If you wait until you understand everything, you may never get the basic steps done.

I've tried notepads, notebooks, spreadsheets....and finally gave up. Like MaytagMan, I've got lots coming and going. Also, now that I'm retired I usually smoke 3 a day, so I'd be doing more data entry than smoking. I do write the 'humi date' (the date they went in my cabinet) and the source on the bottom of boxes, which is helpful. Between that and my amazing razor sharp memory, I'm only surprised occasionally; "...holy crap, I've got a box of THOSE..??..."...

4. I sure hope I never hid any money anywhere!

Obviously, I'm not the norm(shocking)!! I "keep track" of them by keeping them in coolers, in the same room. That way, if I need to check the "spread sheet", I just open the lid and look! "Filing" is just as easy. Open lid, drop in, close lid! Download complete!

All kidding aside, I've got a really good grasp of what I bought, how much I paid for it, and who I bought it from/when. As an example, I bought two boxes of Bolivar Corona Gigantes 2014 & 2015 from John @investandprosper at $450 each in late 2017, and he bought them from a certain vendor we all know in Australia at the time. I can also tell you those same cigars now go for around $2500-$3000 per box currently. I don't know why I can remember this stuff, but I couldn't tell you what I had for breakfast this morning. But, if I die, all that information dies with me currently.
