For your amusement...

Z, that's a great question.

Most of these boxes come back from tourists, that at best are casual smokers or want to impress friends who are smokers. If you are an avid smoker and have had time to travel abroad, you learn where to buy and avoid being ripped off. That isn't so with the casual smoker who thinks since he or she is overseas everyone sells legitimate goods. Even in the country of origin, Cuba you find more fakes than the real deal, as you know even in government approved hotels. So the old caveat applies let the buyer beware

Oh I know only too well.

Perhaps a spite thing Z. Reel in those whom have more money then brains.

I guess, but like Tone said they prey on people know don't really know anything about cigars. The glass-top box seems really stupid for a counterfeiter because you can actually SEE the shoddy smokes inside through the glass. If someone were to buy a box, I think as a counterfeiter you wouldn't want them to get a nice view of the uneven bands and different colours of the smokes inside before buying the box.

I plan on going back down to Cuba next winter (maybe Feb) so I'll see if I can find any glass-top boxes down there just for fun :)

Z, most glass top boxes are from the Dominican Republic and Mexico(CanCun in particular).

I know, I just wanna see if I can find some fakes in "legitimate" stores down in Cuba. Then I'll challenge the guy and ask why he's selling fakes and see what he says. It should be fun. ;)

I guess its all about perspective. Most of the counterfeits I’ve seen haven’t really be shoddy workmanship though. Certainly not triple caps but the construction wasn’t bad. Btw I gave one of those to a fellow who said it was the best cigar he had ever had. Now I give him dog rockets.

:sign: Kinda like the guy who wanted those fake Siglo VIs from me so he could shut up his loud-mouth friend who claimed to be a cigar connoisseur. I forget who that was now, but he posted a fairly funny story about when he gave the fake Siglo to his buddy and watched him struggle through it while claiming it was a really fine stogie.

so how much caps is it supposed to have again?

a friend of mine recently told me that he has a sublime waiting for me with my name on it and i want to know if it's the real deal.
i know how to tell by the bands and the box but other than that i dont know.

Haven't had the chance yet....but I still have the "ammo!"

Triple cap. There's quite a few threads on the board talking about all aspects on how to spot fakes. Here's one thread from a while back that I was personally involved in:

Fake Cohiba VI thread

Dont' think it's been mentioned yet, but I'm pretty sure that the legitimate serial numbers are all 2 letters and 6 numbers. Five numbers on the label here.

I did not smoke it but my co-worker did...

And I quote him here, "Tasted like cardboard."

'Nuff said!

Wilkey, you want the stick and box for your 'collection'?

Sure Rob, I'd love it. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a cooler just for fugazis. You can bring it down on your next swing through DE or drop it in the mail. Your choice.
