I got my first ESG from a generous BOTL. Even after being informed they suck, I still had to try one. I found a cigar that I hate even more than a King B. This is it. It has a shitty ass burn. I've lost half of the cigar to just the bad burn. It tastes literally like wet, musty grass. It reminds me of almost every Avo cigar I've had. The grassy notes that I pick up on. So in short. The ESG just sucks donkey balls on a hot skillet in the middle of July. I would rate this as a over priced dog rocket. I'd rather smoke a Acid or Moontrance over this piece of shit. At least I now know why I can say the ESG sucks. I'm still glad I got to try one but really disappointed that they even released a cigar this freaking bad.

haha! :) Send 'em all to me, Mr. Peat! :)

I figured you'd just complain they were "too mild" but this excoriation is an added treat. ;)

At least I know why the burn sucked so damn bad. It had about a 1/4" gap in the filler all the way to the last 3". So most of the bad burn is gone but it still sucks. I'm just tossing out my personal opinion. I do not like this cigar what so ever. I may have another one coming to me but I dont see me smoking it so who knows what will happen to the other ESG. I will run it by the BOTL that is hooking me up with it.

I'm glad I got to smoke it but just very disappointed in this cigar. I expected much better quality than this smoke. It does remind me of a Avo 80 tho and I didnt care for it either. In fact, I am getting sick smoking this nasty cigar. But at least I have my own informed person opinion why I can say this smoke was so bad. And that in itself, it priceless.

Wow, glad you enjoyed the cigar Loren

When I got here: "It reminds me of almost every Avo cigar I've had" I stopped reading and agreed to disagree entirely [as I have never smoked an AVO I didn't like]. I had an ESG yesterday, and while I was only able to smoke a bit more than half, I enjoyed it. Kudos for posting your opinion.

Wow,I'd tell ya to try another but at the price of these I doubt you will.
I am glad I didnt have such a problem with the two I smoked.

Thanks for the honesty in your review.

LMAO at the, uh... "brutally honest" review. Here's my favorite quote: "... just sucks donkey balls on a hot skillet in the middle of July."

I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but I enjoyed the review immensely!

Truth up front: I hope you and everyone else hates these cigars. Will make it easier to obtain for me. :)

However, I feel compelled to say that you can't judge a cigar line -- any cigar line -- by a single cigar. Bad things can happen to any hand made product, even the most expensive of smokes.

It's also curious that you wouldn't like the taste, given that they are using a sun grown Opus wrapper, with VSG filler. Do you like VSGs in general, or do you dislike them as well?

Either way, this smoke is not a power house, so I'm thinking it isn't your thing. Just curious what your take on normal VSGs is, because this is just a VSG with a different wrapper.

I have yet to have one...Patiently waiting for them to get to KY

I've been really disappointed with many of the Fuente products lately, except the Cuesta Reys, they are always super consistent.

I was already told I probably wouldnt like it and it turns out to be true. I do like a VSG once in a blue moon. I used to really like them back in the day, but when I am in the Cigar shop, I find myself reaching for other things than a VSG. I've had lke 3 VSG's this year. They've pretty much lost all their luster to me lately. For a little extra, I will get a Padron 1964 or 1926 maddie instead.

I've smoked enough cigars to know if I should give it another shot. This cigar already proved I dont need another one to try. Its just not my cigar. It has no body, no strength, not even a hint of spice...Absolutely nothing but just a grassy taste. I am not making this up. This cigar reminded me of the Avo 80. It was nearly identical in taste. Which I have disliked the 3 Avo 80's I've have. First impression of an Avo 80 was pretty much consistant of a ESG. A strong grassy taste. I dont know what it is but thats the best way to describe the experience. I tossed the last 2" and a tad more into the garbage. It was just wrong.

But in my experience, not everyone will agree or disagree on a cigar. This will just happen to be one of those experiences. If it came down to having a Opus X, ESG, and a VSG...hands down pick the Opus X. Thats the beauty of cigars..the unique taste buds that everyone has. And for me to slam a cigar of pemium level is pretty rare and I've smoked more than my share of cigars to be able to know if one is worth of another shot or not. If you enjoy the ESG, more power to you.

Thank god I saved the good ones for someone who would appreciate them.

:p

What gets my goat about this cigar is the price point. Rolling two $10 cigars together doesn't make it a $20 cigar. I really feel they lost the best parts of both lines when they made the ESG. Though I had a decent burn on all three of the ESG's that I have smoked, the wrappers were all ugly and one of them was even patched. I think that much like the King B, Fuente did rush the hands of time on this one just to feed our junky-like attitude towards their cigars. I agree Mr. Peat...another in a long line of expensive hard to find money makers that was all hype. I could have enjoyed myself a great deal more had I spent my $80 at the titty bar with my $6 cigar.

I agree it's all hype...but it was good hype. We all bought into it and we smoked them...Fuente Marketing...woo-hoo!!! But I happened to like them.
