I'm a territory manager for a cardiology diagnostics service company...I've been trying to see this one particular doctor for the last 2 years. He will never call me back and his staff now knows not to let me see him (I'm persistent  ).

About 2 years ago I was told that he was a member at a particular cigar club and he had a loccker "Full of Opus X", so the owner says. I remembered that, this morning, as I was about to hit the streets and brought along with me an Opus X #5. Nothing to big or fancy (I was opting to go with the "A"). So as I walked in the office door, there was a new girl behind the desk (Always a nice surprise!) and she said that the doctor was not in yet but would be at about 2pm. So I whipped out the #5 and asked for a piece of tape, I taped my business card to the Opus (cello still on) and gave it to the new girl to hand to the MD. She gave me a weird look and proceeded to put it on his desk.

When I went back to the office at 2pm he was still not in (too many procedures?). So I left to go home. As I walked in the door to my home my cell phone rang with a local number on it. The voice on the other end said "This is Dr. Moran and thank you so much for the cigar. Wow, what a great way to get in the door!" I told him what I do and he invited me to his cigar club to talk business!

Moral - Sometimes things just go your way!

Haha! Great story! It's amazing how something as simple as a cigar can give you an "in" with someone who would not normally give you the time of day. Have had some similar experiences, but none nearly as good as that!

Imagine if you had given him one of those padrons made with chocolate!

(Sorry, haven't thought about that in a while and couldn't resist! Just busting your balls man.)

Great story... As a physician myself, I can relate. Many reps come to my office and they are always inviting to come out because they are "jones'" for a smoke. They know I always whip out the collectodor. That was great marketing and great story...Good Luck

Haha.

You made a business connection, met a fellow BOTL, sent a gift/bomb, organized a herf, and bribed someone all in one very well-thought out action.

Great story!

Now can you go to c-bid to document the "value" of that smoke, and write it off as a business gift expense? What are those No. 5's going for again, $30-$40?
