The best infield in the National League:

It doesn't even matter who's on third (I don't know!!!)

They could put the Phanatic out their and it would still be the best!

Dude, the best infield in the National League is at Shea, sorry to burst your bubble. Go check the numbers.

Hmmm...do I smell a little wager in the works?

:( Nobody even got my Abbot & Costello reference.
I go to almost all the Mets games in Philadelphia. Let me know what you want to bet. What is the name of the guy Who plays first base?

GO SOX

Doc.

Sox Suck. Go Yanks! :D

PS - I will be covering premium fivers on Yankee - Red Sox regular season series
Is there anything more pathetic than a CT. Yankee fan?

Doc.

The answer is, no.

Lol.
Ditto.

Brooklyn, NY born and raised.

Ahhh... you can feel another 3rd place finish for the Sox. Can't you feel it? You know you can feel it. Maybe this year your rivalry will be with the Jays or the O's.

Are you serious?

I'm probably missing something.

Yes the reference to Abbot and Costello, LOL

LOL. Tony, guess there are some who might have never heard that classic routine.
Hard to figure though.
I still love so many of their routines.
The mudder/fodder routine still cracks me up every time...

tone-ny, on your suggestion I went and checked out the 2006 Regular Season stats (based off each team's respective websites) for the starting infields for the Phillies and Mets. Since the Phils switched 3B numerous times throughout the year, I included the slop trifecta of Bell/Nunez/Hernandez. Here's what I got (stats marked with an asterisk are the better between the 2 teams):

Philadelphia Philles (Howard, Utley, Rollins, Bell/Nunez/Hernandez):
At-Bats: 2726 *
Runs: 455 *
Hits: 774 *
2B: 141 *
3B: 19
HR: 126 *
RBI: 419 *
Total Bases: 1331 *
Bases-on-Balls: 313 *
Strike-Outs: 529
Stolen Bases: 53
Caught Stealing: 8 *
On-Base %: .361 *
Slugging %: .488
Batting Avg: .284

New York Mets (Reyes, Wright, Delgado, Valentin):
At-Bats: 2137
Runs: 363
Hits: 618
2B: 124
3B: 27 *
HR: 101
RBI: 373
Total Bases: 1099
Bases-on-Balls: 230
Strike-Outs: 385 *
Stolen Bases: 90 *
Caught Stealing: 24
On-Base %: .359
Slugging %: .514 *
Batting Avg: .289 *

I don't know about you, but to me it looks like the Phils fared better last year, even when you factor in the carousel of garbage they had at third base. The Mets had more triples and stolen bases (mainly a factor of their speed), and fewer strikouts (thank Ryan Howard for that one), but even so they only had slightly higher batting average and slugging % (again, remember who played third for the Phillies), and the Phils got on base more often. If you want the stats, let me know.

I'm willing to place a little action on this season's results. Let me noodle on it awhile and I'll get back to you via PM.

Oh, and:

Who's on first
What's on second
I-don't-know's on third
Why's in left field
Because is in center field
Tomorrow's pitching to Today

&

I-don't-give-a-damn is playing short

(guess they never had a right fielder) :D

That rountine is one of the great ones. If I'm not mistaken it is an exhibit at Cooperstown.

PM for the Phillies vs Mets bet.

It is. A rather old baseball tria question: Who are the only two people in the Baseball hall of Fame who had nothing to do with Baseball?

Abbot and Costello.

Doc.
