"Anchorage Fire Department engineer Jim Sterling, center, plays victim as acting Capt. Zach Stubbs, right, and Capt. Jeff Hoke move him toward shore during ice rescue training Wednesday at University Lake. The trio plus firefighter Todd Bowey, all members of the department's dive team, took turns in the frigid water while practicing rescue techniques using ropes, poles and sleds. Firefighters had already responded to two dog rescue situations at the lake in recent weeks. "Even though it looks walkable, stay off the ice and give it a few weeks," Hoke said. Stubbs warned pet owners not to follow their animals onto the ice. "We'd rather go out there after somebody's dog than after somebody trying to rescue their dog," he said."

Jim they didn't take your good side in the picture!

Nice work there. Good to know that you guys train in actual conditions.

so a serious question.... do you guys use dogs for ice rescues? i swore i read somewhere they trained dogs to pull people from the ice because they are twice as strong and weighed half as much.
