The Official Fitness Contest Thread

Going to my son's gym tonight and finally get to weigh in. Getting some exercise in but not enough by my standards. Had a rough Sat though, mommy-daughter date to see much anticipated "Hannah Montana 3D movie" and cheated my butt off with popcorn and chocolate  but I am coming clean on that because I feel it is only right. Decided Sunday was a new day and got busy getting healthy  .

I'm hoping to join Matts membership tonight so I can do this at least 5 days a week.

Great job guys on your goals!! Some impressive numbers and workouts   !

Popcorn is alright for you, just keep it in moderation and no butter/salt. Can't say much about the chocolate though, I doubt theaters will stock low fat dark chocolate.

I managed to get 4 workouts in last week, 2 cardio and 2 weight workouts. Didn't do bad on the food intake, even though I had a birthday and the Superbow. Down to 235 lbs and 37.5 % body fat.

For all you guys and gal taking on this challenge, KEEP IT UP!!

I know Erick didn't say this, but I might as well tell you. The first 10 pounds are easy to lose. Once you get down to below 20% BF (according to scale/calipers) the weight loss becomes exponentially difficult over time. Within 4 weeks time, your body will evolve and adapt to your current work out and dietary habits, so you'll might have to change a few details here and there. Don't let a slowed progress deter you.

Eat clean, eat right, and stay consistent. Like the Giants fans who faced their Goliath, just believe and just do it.

So, how goes it for everyone? Good here. Dropped a few pounds and I am sore as heck ;)

I'm headed to the gym at 10. I had a light breakfast and will eat some good protein and carbs after the workout. I feel good.

Down a few myself. Most from diet. Need to work on the workout part, but damn its been cold in the morning. I will do a check of the weight on sunday and post the results.

Not sure, haven't weighed, but doing cardio 6 days a week, and eating clean, really being careful what i put in my body. For some reason, haven't gotten to lifting yet. even though i have a home gym w/ free weights  , but losing my dog this week really put me in a funk.

Eating more than the RDA of fiber has been interesting :. Love to chat, but i gotta go

Bonus Opportunity #1 1/5 complete.

I tried a class for the first time ever this morning. I did a kickboxing cardio class. That was actually pretty fun, and there were some smokin chicks in there. :whistling:

very nice! hahah, did the class kick yer ass???

Actually it didn't hurt until after the cardio section and cool down, we did some ab work. She said that if this hurts in a couple of days, that it would be a good thing... Means the muscles are working and rebuilding... To which I commented that my muscles must really be working, cause I am hurting pretty good right now.

Question for you fitness guys:

I would like your input on the dry sauna. I understand that hydration is imperative to rebuilding muscle, so why put yourself through something that will work against you with dehydration. Is there a benefit, other than just feeling good, to all of that sweating?

I might add, that I did use it for 10 minutes after each workout while drinking plenty of water. I use it for the relaxation side. So is this hurting me? Or with the right amount of water, is it fine to do for the pleasing portion of it?

Thanks for your input,

Gary

I can only answer that based on my own opinion.

alot of times on cardio days (when I have a little extra time left over) I like to go sit in the sauna. Something about it just feels great, and I believe that sweating it out like that is good for removing toxins from your system. As long as you do it in moderation (up to like 20 minutes a time) I don't see it doiing anything but good! Water is easy to replace in your system!

30 minutes of weight training today, followed by 10 minutes of abs, and finally 45 minutes of cardio. I feel like I've been punched in the stomach. But oddly, I feel great.

Hey Eric / Dave, what is your opinion on whether or not to use CLA when trying to burn fat and add muscle.
Also, how important is a pre-workout meal (lifting)? I like to workout early am, so i don't have the ability to eat an hour before lifting as recommended.

Not sure. I know that doing Cardio in the mornings before you eat anything is basically the best time to maximize weight loss, but I'm not sure how lifting plays into that.

I try and eat complex carbs/protein about 1.5 hours before I go to the gym. If you need some quick energy right before you lift, some kind of easily broken down sugars are good. haha, I think.

I'm not as good with the whole nutrition thing, but I do know that you have to choose what you eat carefully before you workout. Protein either during or immediately after lifting is a really good idea as well.

My guess is that dave will have more thorough advice on this subject

SO, how is everyone else doing...a couple of you are being pretty quiet. :whistling:

Keep going folks! I'm lurking to see how you all do. Good luck with your fitness efforts -- I think there are many CPers rooting you on.....

You're talking about me aren't you?

Whew, just finished lifting for the 1st time in over a year, i'll be a sore puppy. Can you push it too hard (other than causing burn out) as i do cardio every day, and weight training every other day...

Also, any insight on creatine? I read alot about it, and it's basically a naturally occurring substance, with not alot of side effects, but wondering if it has caused anyone the squirts, a wave hit me 20 min after downing 10 grams...

eating pretty clean, about 1800 calories / day, and cardio every day, but not losing much weight, but i really have to push it hard to get my heart rate about 170 on the bike, much more than a couple weeks ago...

weigh in today...168 @ 23% body fat.

Did a 2 mile walk with my wife this morning, abs/push-up tomorrow, then running the day after

I bought a bicyle this weekend but now we have a blizzard on the way. LOL, life is cruel like that sometimes. I fixed up a little somking lounge in my garage last month and my allegies got bad so I didn't go out and smoke for four days.
