Brett Favre flop

I Have a $50 fiver that says Favre will have a disaster of a season.

Up until his latest round of BS I viewed Favre as one of a dying breed. Now I see he is just like all the rest "look at me, what about me, who cares about the team....what about me".

I think New York is the last place he should be and I think this will tarnish his illustrious career.

Here's the bet.....If the season is a flop for him at QB for the jets, you owe me. If he excels and has another banner year I owe you. If he plays the season out and it's all blah, blah, blah, (not a clear cut victory for either) then we trade $50 fivers.

Who wants to prove me wrong?

I have been a Packer fan all my life.
Brett has given me many hours of enjoyment. I really love to watch him play. All these years I have though when watching him..."This guy just loves the game"

Well Cigarstone I think you hit the nail on the head.

I was happy to see him go out on top last season.

Damnit this is wrong

One question, what constitutes a flop of a year?

Now I see he is just like all the rest "look at me, what about me, who cares about the team....what about me".

I don't want your bet. I don't wish anything bad upon Brett, but I couldn't really care less about him anymore. However, the statement above is wrong. Brett does truly love football. That's why he's still playing.

He had a monster year last year and I don't think he'll duplicate that. Are you considering a flop if the Jets have a losing record or if he throws more INTs vs. TDs or what? Also, what does expound mean? :D

I hear ya'

Being a Cowboys fan, It hurt to see Emmit Smith go play another year in AZ instead of just retiring a Cowboy.

I guess there is something about those kinds of guys. They just can't quit until it has been made abundantly clear to them (that's read "get's their ass kicked") no matter what they feel inside.

I've never been a big fan of Favre. I always thought he was too cocky but I respected how good he was. I also remember feeling good for him when he made the decision to quit at such a high point in his career. Then I remember being "not amazed" when I heard he had changed his mind.

The worst part of it is was the way he tried to put GB over a barrel when he decided to "un-retire". It just proved to me I was right about the guy all along.

I agree with you. His aging body's chances of having an outstanding year in a completely brand new system are not good.

Oh well, I've never been a Jets fan either.

I dunno. I believe Favre genuinely loves football, but I think the way his handled this whole 'retirement' thing this past off season has shown me, at least IMO, that it is all about him. Maybe I'm too harsh, but he's come off as just another spoiled, pampered athlete who believes everyone should give in to his whims and then seems surprised and upset when they don't.

Cigarstone, I'm not going to take your bet because I think he's going to have a tough season ahead of him learning a new system and playing in a tough market. I think at his age it's going to be extremely difficult form him succeed, but if anyone can prove me wrong, he certainly can. (not enough to tempt me to lay down 1/2 a C note on it, though).

Again, what constitutes a flop of a year?
Last year's record 4-12. 8 and 8 would be considered a good season.

What do you think?

I might be interested in this bet.

There is no way to truly define the flop prior to the season. The Jets are in a tough division so we couldn't go by record.

Let me expound......As I said I think it will be clear at the end of the year that the Jets made a mistake and so did he. If he lights up the world and plays really well but the Jets go 7-9 anyway because of the division I will concede. If his year is so-so we can trade fivers. Make sense?

Was this just a one time deal Jeff, or where you going to take on all who accept?

Can't take all who accept because football fans are nuts! But I will take your fiver if you wish :D

Yeah, I think im interested in this also.. Brett Farve is Brett Farve (Packers, Jets, Giants, Dolphins, whoever)..

You can't take that away from him that he can carry a team and he is a playmaker..

OK, I'm in.

Was this just a one time deal Jeff, or where you going to take on all who accept?

What would you two consider it if he gets hurt in week three? Since the Jets got rid of Pennington I would say the Favre trade was a huge flop because the Jets will have no-one to play QB.

I think if its that early in the season its a wash and we do a straight up trade.

However if it's later in the season, let's say after the midway point, we go to the scorecards.

I'm okay with that because worst case we do a nice trade. But................you have to admit that if he gets hurt and the Jets fail miserably, because they made the trade for him and cut Pennington, that his career ended badly and the Jets are in a world of shit for taking him which is kinda what was meant by the whole flop thing.

I think he will do well. He has a chip on his shoulder and has great pride. I think he will do well but stay away from my Eagles, Brett.
Hope everyone enjoys this glorious football season. There is nothing better.

You're on Jeff. I think we're honest enough with each other to know if he does well or is a complete flop. I do have a secret weapon though that will almost certainly tip the scales in my favor: I won't draft him to my fantasy football team!!! (Insert Dr. Evil-like maniacal laughter here).

Sounds good to me. It gives another team to follow besides my beloved Vikings!

Good deal Clint! And it wouldn't be the first time Favre caused me to lose a bet!
