Padron Legacy at Holts

I am going to battle with myself about this one for a bit....

I'm not. It's not worth $85 to me just to try one. I have all of the other cigars in my humidor. If they offered them as a fiver or something, I'd probably buy them though.
It seems like they're only offering them in the gift pack to "spread the craze." I think they would've had Padron make more Legacies than just the handful available in samplers. I'd bet after the holidays they become available in 5ers or boxes. But by then the hype will be through the roof, and so will Holt's prices. Then again, I could be dead wrong.

It was brought up that the 1964 Torpedo was sort of the odd ball here, I am believe that this may give us some clue to the new blend. Obviously the Legacy is 3 parts 1926 and 1 part 1964... I mean that clearly makes sense, right??? I am sure there is someone smoking a Legacy on a subway in the Upper East Side right now who may disagree, but being that we are now on day light saving times and fast approaching the winter solstice with only 4 years and change to the end of the Mayan calender......yea I guess nothing really makes sense anymore.

??? ??? ???

You need to stop drinking absinthe buddy. This is your intervention... :sign:

It must be so nice to go through life with blinders on. Can't you smell it coming, the black hole at the center of the Milkway, the Sun and Earth will all be in perfect alignment on Dec 21, 2012. What will happen? We got bigfoots trashing cabins in Canada, the Ghost Hunters are close to find proof of the here after, Somolians in a dingy are taking over Oil Tankers, you can buy a Ouija board to talk to the dead at Toys "R" Us, Superman is in a wheel chair. It all makes perfect sense, can't you see...

Soon we will see the Gate Keeper return and then you will look to me as a prophet. Kevin Pappas has told me that it is written and so shall it come to pass. Will you deny me three times before this thread is over?

And yes you did win, no I don't need your address, but I do need to know one thing:

Pineapple or Peach???

The Padron Legacy's are only sold in a package. Holt's in not permitted to sell them separately. So in order to buy 1 Legacy, either natural or maduro, you must buy a package containing 4 other cigars. In typical fashion, Jorge Padron doesn't say what exactly the make up of the cigar is other that it's a slightly tweaked version of a 1926. Having talked to the higher ups in Holts, they don't even know what the makeup of the cigar is. Hope this helps.

Follow the link in one of the above posts. 10 packs and singles available.

I was lucky enough to get one of these a couple of weeks ago from someone in a private sale. I'll smoke it tonight and see if I think it's worth $17-$20.

While this vitola is not what I have been dreaming about for the 1926 line, it is definitely a move in the right direction. Alan, if you could be so kind as to share you opinion on this smoke when you get a chance. Thanks

I would be in for 2 or 3 depending on how the split breaks up.

Alan, I'm sure you know the answer on that by now!

Who would've thunked it. Typical Holt's "bait 'n rape."

OK, my impressions:

The one I smoked last night was pretty good. It was very similar to other 1926 line cigars. It seemed to be trying to be a longer smoking No. 35, but it didn't quite have the juice to get there. It had the usual 1926 flavor profile and complexity and was constructed just like any other Padron premium. Maybe my tasters aren't sophisticated enough to notice any present subtle differences and this one a single cigar tasting, but that's all I've got to go on. I usually try to smoke at least 3 of a particular cigar before making up my mind.

It's a nice cigar, but it's nothing really different enough to me to justify purchasing more. I can't detect any discernible difference in the blend form this one smoke. I'm glad I got the chance to smoke it, though. It keeps my Padron streak going. :)

Would it be worth picking up more for me? No. However, if your a Padron fan it's worth the time. If they were a couple of bucks less they may have a place in my humidor. The price is fairly in line with the rest of the line, but I think if the price were somewhere between the No. 6 and No. 2 it would be easier to justify. If the blend is significantly different enough to set it apart price wise, I don't think it should wear the 1926 band. Of course I don't sell cigars for a living, so I may be speaking out of turn. :)

This is all just my observation. Take it for what it is. I'm no expert and I don't like a lot of smokes others love (and I love some others don't like). Your experience may be different.

Knowing the Padrons like we do, Alan, :) I can't imagine them making something specifically for Holts. I mean, if they haven't blended anything for the Outlaw, are they really going to do it for Holts?

Different size, and that's it. My .02.
