Why don't women like cigars?

Hey guys,

I think we can all agree the cigar world is dominated by men. But, from my limited experience, I've noticed women generally don't seem to enjoy smoking stogies.

Am I wrong?
And if not, why don't they like cigars?

I believe when non-informed women think about cigars in general ... they tend to refer to the 'gars of yesteryears, but with the overwhelming development of newer trends directed towards the younger crowd in the form of "infused" cigars, anything is possible. With so many new boutique cigars hitting the market at an alarming rate, it's not uncommon to find flavors in every dimension.

Sorry, I went off in a tangent! :D

Nick

Because cigars are fun and relaxing.

Women try to destroy everything fun and relaxing.

I totally agree with Nick here, I believe that women in general that are not informed they tend to think of it as an "old man" thing. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of informed women, the SOTL's here can tell you that. My wife smokes cigars, however more flavored than not but she does like Kristoff cigars and the Liga Privada #9 a lot, also a handfull of Gurkha also. Actually I tend to think there a lot more women out there than you think, you just haven't been lucky enough to meet them yet.

My sister always would toss her nose up when I lite up a smoke, then one day she actually asked for a puff; after that I tossed her a Ashton Cabinet and she nubbed the damn thing. When my sister does smoke it seems she is able to descibe and pick up the various flavors with ease. Go figure.

There's definitely that old stigma to it. The image of the disgusting fat guy in a bad suit vest and thick tie too short and sweat stains, sitting behind an old school desk puffing on old skunky cheap cigar 2 inches long and yelling sexist onslaughts in between puffs and bites of his sandwich.

Or was that in a cartoon? But the smokers I've met from this board are anything but that. And the way the industry's changed now it could be a matter of time before that old stereotype is forgotten.

Maybe not. I just don't know how anyone can not somewhat agree that a good cigar doesn't really smell bad and even smells good when being smoked nearby, at least not as bad as a cigarette. The last time I was in the strip joint with a group from work and the guys a couple tables over sparked up some smokes, I started to salivate haha. (but that could have been the misty mountains bouncing in front of me. either way I wanted one!)

I started smokin' gars about a year ago. Then, my girlfriend had been going out with me for a little over a year. When she found out, she wasn't pleased. A year later, she has become more understanding (or simply more accustom to my smoking), and she occasionally takes a puff or two off the cigar when I'm smoking around her (not to often, though). A lot of her girlfriends have gotten boyfriends who now smoke cigars, and they have picked up smoking Acids to stay in the loop.

I think we're seeing a slight change in the cigar audience :) She still hates the smell, though! A bit off topic, but there's a little insight from the eyes of a college boy.

Actually, it seems that women SHOULD like cigars more. They REALLY like diamonds, which are expensive and worthless at the same time. They like to know that someone spent a lot of money on something symbolic. Why not a cigar? I myself kinda like the perverse feeling I get when someone asks me what the most I've spent on a cigar was. I tell them "Take two $20 bills, and set them on fire. That's basically what I did." (I bought a Journey to Chateu Fuente giftset and my brother and I smoked them for his wedding - I still have the Lancero).

Hmm, maybe if women figure out there are some expensive cigars out there... what's that? A lynch mob forming outside my house?

At our local B&M hangout, I usually see one or two female regulars puffing away.

Haven't you all noticed, women don't like anything that takes the attention away from themselves.

Doc

It was my wife who actually got me into cigars. :) She had been smoking them for several years before me. She goes with me to Cigar Fest every year as well as some cigar dinners. She still says I stink when I come home from the B&M though.

Plain and simple, because we smell like cheetos and beer after a nice smoke. She almost threw up after taking a wiff of an opusx cigar. :D Ahhh, good times.

You have not met the right woman yet......

Some women LOVE cigars.

I know several female smokers and I think it is a lot of fun to smoke with them.

It is sort of like getting your nails done. Some guys do that, most do not. It is a femenine thing to do. Reverse that and liken it to cigars. cigars.
