Happy Holidays everyone!

That said, SAFE Holidays everyone as well! If no one has ever seen these, the links are making the rounds again. Our fire inspectors make sure to send these out yearly. If you are a fan of a real Christmas tree and not artificial, you have got to watch these.

(linky) This video shows a well watered tree vs. a neglected tree - good demonstration as to WHY you want to water daily!

(linky) Someone lighting their tree outside - imagine that INSIDE YOUR HOUSE

(linky) Here's on INSIDE A HOUSE - Public Service Announcement. Watch the timer and see how fast that happens. Now imagine yourself in the same house. Think you could wake up, get everyone in your house awake and outside safely before the smoke got you?

(linky) Another test lighting

(linky) French showing how bad candles are on a tree - yes, people use candles!!

Water your tree daily, use the water additive, and keep the candles away from the tree!! Only use good quality lights, that are relatively new. LED lights are best as they draw less power and do not create the heat like the old style. Make sure they are in good working order if they are not new - inspect for cracks in the wires, and replace them as needed.

And above all... MAKE SURE YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS ARE WORKING!! Replace batteries. If the detector is more than 5 years old (check the manufacture date) replace it.

Ok... off my soapbox... Have a great Holiday season everyone

Nice Jim!

Don't forget using common sense when deep frying a turkey. A lot of fires are started with people deep frying turkeys in the garage. It's easy to misjudge the amount of oil in the pot to turkey size ratio. I've seen it done with a house burnt down near my old haunts.
