In case it's of any diagnostic value, I got the spammer PM but have never had any problems with CP PM notification emails, other than the fact that sometimes they'll arrive a little bit late. I'm on XP using FF 3.0.8 with Yahoo as my email provider and Comcast as my ISP.
However, on multiple (5-6ish) separate occasions during my year here, I too have experienced that awkward "the PM shows as sent and received but a normal person not raised by savages would have replied in some way" uncertainty that makes me question whether PMs are actually being sent as indicated, if people are surprisingly rude, if perhaps I'm being ignored, or if I'm unknowingly disliked by people...
