Well. Apparently the shop sold not only the two boxes they were holding for me, but also the other four they had in stock. There aren't any left. I will not be going back to this shop again. The place is Hi-Times Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa.
Well, I need a little help from our retailers here (or anyone else for that matter!), who may have the ability to find out what information can be procured from a box code off a box of Davidoff 3000's. I found a shop that has about six boxes of these things, and I was rather suprised when I picked one up and found the label to be a little yellow, and the cellophane was starting to show a tinge of yellow to it as well. I have an opportunity to buy these boxes at the price of $8.30 per stick after tax, and I wanted to know how much age they have on them. On emailing Davidoff, the person whom I was in contact with wouldn't give me any information at all, and only wanted to know which shop it was I was buying these from, and were they an authorized Davidoff retailer, which they are. Perhaps the date can't be pulled using the box code, but I figured it was worth a shot. On asking the guy who worked there, he said the cigars never sold because rarely are people interested in lanceros, and so they had been there for a long time, even before the change of ownership which from what he said was six years ago. So, these could possibly be over six years old. I smoked one the other day and it was a fantastic though mild smoke (review coming soon!). If these turn out to be a hell of a find, and anyone is interested, I could snatch up a few boxes and help out anyone interested. PM me for the box code.
