Well. Apparently the shop sold not only the two boxes they were holding for me, but also the other four they had in stock. There aren't any left. I will not be going back to this shop again. The place is Hi-Times Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa.

Well, I need a little help from our retailers here (or anyone else for that matter!), who may have the ability to find out what information can be procured from a box code off a box of Davidoff 3000's. I found a shop that has about six boxes of these things, and I was rather suprised when I picked one up and found the label to be a little yellow, and the cellophane was starting to show a tinge of yellow to it as well. I have an opportunity to buy these boxes at the price of $8.30 per stick after tax, and I wanted to know how much age they have on them. On emailing Davidoff, the person whom I was in contact with wouldn't give me any information at all, and only wanted to know which shop it was I was buying these from, and were they an authorized Davidoff retailer, which they are. Perhaps the date can't be pulled using the box code, but I figured it was worth a shot. On asking the guy who worked there, he said the cigars never sold because rarely are people interested in lanceros, and so they had been there for a long time, even before the change of ownership which from what he said was six years ago. So, these could possibly be over six years old. I smoked one the other day and it was a fantastic though mild smoke (review coming soon!). If these turn out to be a hell of a find, and anyone is interested, I could snatch up a few boxes and help out anyone interested. PM me for the box code.

I'll answer all the PM's when I get into work. I didn't realize this would draw so much attention...I'll try to make sure everyone who wants in on this gets taken care of.

Ok, all PM's answered!

Well, it would appear that the amount of requests exceedes my current financial means for cigars, so what I can do if it is ok with everyone is this: Once I hear back from a couple guys here on the box code and whether it reveals the age or not, a couple things can happen. If the code says they are nicely aged, I'll buy two boxes and go down the order of requests and send them out appropriately, and once I receive the funds from those cigars back I can go pick up another couple boxes, and so on and so forth until they are all gone. If the code doesn't tell the age, I'll buy a few more singles or even a box, and send a couple to a FOG to determine whether they are indeed showing signs of age (I don't trust my eyes when it comes to cello and bands starting to yellow, I could be wrong as I am not as experienced as many here). If the FOG says, "Yes sir!" I'll do the same and buy a couple boxes, ect ect. How does that sound to everyone?

Davidoff bands have been known yellow within a year.

Cello...longer.

Hrmm, that is something I didn't know! (Which isn't saying much...) Well, hopefully someone can give me some insight as to whether the box code gives the date of the production or not. Thanks Gary!

I thought that it was possible to tell the year from the Davidoff boxes. I've notices that the last 2 numbers seem to correspond to the year they were produced? Can anyone back me up on this.

PM me for the box code.

Did you contact the manager and the Davidoff Rep?

I'll be calling them tomorrow, and I just fired off an email to the lady over at Davidoff that I was in contact with.

Sorry to hear that Charles, wonder what happened here?

Do you think somebody that lurks and read your post started calling around in your area and bought them thinking they had the find of the century?

Just theorizing is all.

Any update Charles?
I don't expect these to show up, but I'm just curious to see what BS story you get.

No word back from them yet. They probably just think I am annoying at this point. I talked to the shop again, and they claim that all the boxes have been sold. I'm willing to bet that either someone else realized the possibility with these cigars and snatched them all up, or the guys working the humidor said, "Damn, this guy really wants these sticks...lets pretend they are all gone, wait a bit, then say we got more and raise the price!"

Whatever the case, screw 'em. I'll stick to Bo's and his small-compared-to-them humidor, and the vendors we have here. I'll take awesome customer service over selection any day.

Sorry to hear the deal didn't go through. Just curious as to why you are not going to go back to the shop. ???

Ummm maybe because they sold the two boxes he put on hold? If someone did that to me I wouldn't go back to their shop either.
