This is the first major issue I've had with mine since I got it in '02 (love the 5.7). I didn't have to get it surfaced. I noticed a gradually increasing leak of coolant under the truck; backtracked it to the front of the intake. I didn't have any signs in the radiator or in the oil (yet) so...
It happens. Punch first if you like. Clip at the first hint of tar. You'll figure it out after a few times.
Had a lot of Anejo 55's (torps) that have done that to me. Torps seem to do it more than others; or a small punch on a big RG.
Never had a CC do it, though.
Something will happen at some point. When, where, or what: can't say. But always having some sort of stockpile o' supplies and a "bug-out spot" never hurts. Having fully-armed family in the same neighborhood doesn't hurt either. Sounds crazy, but have a few cartons of cigarettes around...
Last weekend's project...new intake gasket. $90 in parts and supplies and took 2 friggin days. But saved me $1700 in shop labor. :thumbs:

I always go with something I don't have to concentrate on. Never anything I'm trying for the first time (need the reliability), and nothing that has me "searching" for flavors.
