    Smokes for Gustav

Good Luck Rich. I read this in the NY Times: "After pulverizing numerous homes and roads on Isla de la Juventud, a small province just off the coast of Cuba, Gustav moved to the mainland, where it destroyed more homes, knocked out power, and ruined tobacco crops in the province of Pinar del...

    Glass-Top Humidor

Danny, What a nice creative solution. I'm curious, what model humidor do you have? I would think the glass should have been sealed with silicon caulk or double sided insulation tape. - Rick

    Outgassing - Cooler Humidors

The Coleman type coolers should be made of a food grade HDPE, High Density Polyethylene, a relatively safe plastic that should not gas in it's pure form. However, high temperatures, burning, and caustic chemicals are another matter. If your cooler is outgassing, it may be the some other...

    Walmart Sale

How to remove the smell is a good question especially if you have an acute sense of smell. After many years of making and drinking wine, I find the subtle differences is cigar smells is very enjoyable to me. I would not want the smell of plastic to permeate my expensive cigars. I don't own a...

    Cigar Stores

Mark, Do you mean the "site" as in cigarpass or the concept that we can collect together information about cigar stores? I agree, my first observations about Club Havana are rather sketchy and it would be nice to expand both with personal notes and perhaps more details about the store's hours...

Thanks for having us CAO Sale!

I'm naive on these things. I just called and talked with Tom. I was ready to order a box of LAnniversaire Maduro Belicosa expecting a price of $77. Instead it was $127.75 before shipping. Apparently the reg. box price at Cigar Masters is well over $200. I was assuming from other online web pages...

    Odd Smell in New Humidor

Rod, As a fairly good woodworker, what amazes me is the incredibly good fit and finish on this humidor. The $139 I paid means this was produced and shipped to the US for somewhere around $60. How do they do that? Are these handmade or a product of a highly automated factory? - Rick

    Cigar Stores

I think it would be nice if we could collectively put together our impressions of Cigar stores. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel to other parts of the world. I would love to learn more about people's cigar store experiences. Last night I enjoyed a Club Havana cigar tasting event...

    Odd Smell in New Humidor

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've been leaving the humidor outside during the day - that seems to be helping. Here is a photo showing the humidor and a blow-up with the lock escutcheon and body removed. You can see that there is a fine white "sawdust" powder from boring the lock mortise. I...

    Odd Smell in New Humidor

I recently purchased a Treasure Dome humidor, imported from China. It is nicely constructed of veneered fiber board. There is a little solid Spanish Cedar on the trays, but the predominant smell is more like glue. I've been putting it outside for the last five days with the lid open to see if...

First Humidor & A Quest Begins

Thanks for the observations. I have ambitious plans to build a small desktop humidor for the quick grab and ready to smoke, a Coleman for long term aging, and eventually an end table and walk-in humidor. It all takes time and lots of consideration.

First Humidor & A Quest Begins

I've always enjoyed a good cigar. With several excellent stores in the neighborhood, I have the habit of handing a smoke or two to good friends and associates. One thing leading to another, one of my associates brought me back a box of Cuban Cohiba's from Spain. This no longer fit my model of...

How to class up a $20 Coleman cooler

I'm convinced. This is good. I'll start checking Safeway for a Coleman end of season sale. I don't quite have a basement, but I think my old wine cellar under the house has fairly stable temperatures. Does anyone remember those old Coleman coolers with the metal latch from the days of yore?

    Today's Smoke

An Avo Maduro #2 while watching the fog flow from the coast into the Redwoods and sitting on the deck of my neighbor's house. He was smoking a Macanudo Maduro. They are both mild smokes, but I thought the Avo had some nice flavors and the smell of rich tobacco.

How to class up a $20 Coleman cooler

Wow! Very nice. I like this idea of using coolers as humidors. Do you have any problems with ammonia gas or humidity build-up?

    Any Reviews

I'm curious to hear what you decide. It seems that the high humidity over time can take a toll on humidors. Does anyone know if the Connoisseur is made of Medex (a medium density fiber board, free of formaldehyde and designed for high moisture areas)? It appears that many of the Chinese...
