Yep. Thought it might have been a peat induced flashback.
Although my initial review may have come across as less than spectacular, this whisky has really grown on me in the last 8 months. As I mentioned in the review, it's a nice Scotch after dinner alone or with a dessert.
Very nice review as usual AVB.
I bought the 15 thinking it would be an improvement on the 12 year old Doublewood. It's a fine Scotch, it just doesn't fit my tastes. The way I describe this dram is that it's a "Bourbon Lover's Scotch" a flavor obviously earned in the first-fill American Oak...
8 months after my last post in this thread I'd go with:
1. Laphroaig Quarter Cask
2. Talisker 18 y-o
3. Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 y-o
4. Caol Ila 18 y-o
5. Tie: Caol Ila 1991 Signatory Bottling
I had the Hacker Pschorr last weekend (a lot of them actually) and I prefer the American versions. It may be a "true" Oktoberfest beer, but I think the American Breweries' Octoberfests are just better tasting beers. They have more body, more malt flavor and they are nicely hopped.
I spent the last year researching TVs for my father-in-law. I was most impressed by the Hitachi 42" 1080P plasma. There are a few different Hitachi lines and the best picture we saw was the 42HDT52. Go check them out at Bernie's in Newington, Southington or Manchester.
Cowboys
The first game I ever remember was the Cowboys beating the Giants in '75 or '76. My brother who was 10 years older was a Giants fan and I'll never foget how pissed he was! I was a Cowboys fan from that day on.
I've had Mad Elf, and it's a great brew, but I think it's more of a Novemberfest. ;)
Also I can't recall if the SA triple tasted like Soy Sauce or not, but I do remember that it was FOUL!
What have you had?
Sam Adams - A little better than last year's offering. Heavier malty flavor.
Harpoon - Not as good as last year. Tried it both on tap and in the bottle and Sam's has got it beat.
Next up, Hacker Pschorr, Dogfish Head Punkin' Ale and Brooklyn Octoberfest.
Nice review AVB.
The Lag 16 is great stuff. Powerful yet smooth, with all the characteristics typical of Islay Scotch.
I usually don't drink Lag in the summer months, but as the cooler evenings of Autumn roll around, this Scotch seems to be in my glass quite often.
Man! Too many come to mind.
Here's a few that hit me right off the bat.
House of the Rising Sun - Frigid Pink (cover of the Animals tune)
Something in the Air - Thunderclap Newman
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
So Alive - Love and Rockets
Pop Music - M
Easy Livin' - Uriah Heep

Very nice review AVB.
This is just a fantastic dram. In my experiences a couple drops of water really makes this stuff EXPLODE! One of the very few Scotches that I enjoy more than the OB Laphroaig 10 year-old. It may be my favorite Scotch period.
Here's my review from last August...
I don't know of many people who stock a full bar.
My bar gets populated a little at a time. I may buy a bottle of sipping rum when I'm in the mood for sipping rum. I may have a some people over to watch a game and tell them I'm making mojitos. So go out and get some mixing rum. My wife has the...
I've tried two of the four. The Ginger Honey Ale was very nice. I could drink a ton of these on a warm summer day.
The Root Beer Brew was most foul. Couldn't finish it either. I drink Sambuca regularly yet I could not stomach this stuff at all.
After seeing Casa's reviews of the other two I...
