One new rule I am adding is: "If you're not a participate of a Pass, you may not post in that thread. "
I see a potential problem in this new rule. If a scammer corrals a group of newbies who will come to their aid? I like the self regulating openness of the pass threads. So there are pissing contests from time to time. I know how to make popcorn. I think this measure is just a little too drastic. I would rather see a "timeout" for those who cannot keep from untoward flaming. But a little toasting can be beneficial more often than harmful, IMHO. Straight and narrow and all that.

I think the bigger problem with the "pass" that forced your hand, Rod, with all due respect, is the fact that it technically is not a pass. This might be the better place to institute a new rule.

This site is the greatest, though, new rules or not.

Well, as far as some of these passes of late, some don't have a clue how to run one, just my opinion. So, in this situation, I won't want to try to help some of these guys out when someone's giving them the shaft as they don't want to hear it anyway. So, let them learn the hard way.

The unfortunate part of this rule is that passes like the EL pass hosted by Devin and Matt now won't be able to include those not in the pass in the contests, which have really made the EL pass a real fun one to participate in, even if you're not one of the players.

I don't believe in this type of censorship, but that's just my .02.

Lee ;)

I think that the no posting is too strong.
I do not mind non pass participants joining in and showing intrest.
Disagreements can be an opportunity to learn.
The whole point is to learn about cigars. If people can't ask questions
how can they learn? I learn just from following a pass even when I don't post to it.

While I think participants only can post on the pass thread isn't a bad idea, there is no reason in the lobby someone can't just start a thread with the same name as the post so outsiders can read, ask question, etc. Maybe Rod could implement a new "Pass Discussion" category?

Just another 2 cents for the piggy bank :sign:

LOL, wished I had thought of that. ;) :D

There's a difference between commenting on "hey i don't think that p/t was fair" and stuff that doesn't even involve the pass to begin with. There's a time to draw the line and I'm glad for the new rule.

Who knows? Without all this bashing of passes, they might go smoother or not :sign: . Bottom line is that the host knew what they were getting themselves into when they started a pass. Like the pass might dissappear or a participant may take a PAM and putt in a $5.00 cigar.

ROFLMAO..... time stamp says I beat you by 7 minutes.... try to keep up newbie. ;)

Ok, I've done a little digging, and I still can't find where this new "rule" was established. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Eric

In under passes in progress...It's in the Gobstopper pass and it's made my Rod ;)

I for one WANT and WELCOME input in a pass that I host from FOG's, respected veterans, etc. to protect me and other pass participants from people like Barney who would have taken advantage of me and my pass without input from cohibasurfer and milesmingusmonk.

Let me refresh your memories here, Barney proposed completely lopsides takes in my Election 2004 pass in a PM to me, I said "Gee, I think ya ought to reconsider" he disagreed, posted his proposed P/T's in the thread anyway, was criticized by CS & MMM then Barney starts his "Who is a bigger a**hole" thread. :0

Barney's behavior in that case and in other cases where he goes back on his word and tries to take advantage of people SHOULD be open to debate and criticism and not allowing people to post in a thread unless they are a pass participant is not a good move for this site.

I'm sure many of you think I have a case of red a$$ with Barney which I clearly do but tell ya what, if it wasn't for me, CS, MMM, Gibu, SFG75 and MANY others pointing out Barney's shady ways, there would be many additional victims of him in the future.

Oh sure, easy for many of you to just say "CC you oughta just 'drop it'" but tell ya what, the next time YOU GUYS get stiffed by Barney or the likes of him, I promise I'll stand on the sidelines with my hands in my pockets laughing at you and telling you to "drop it" too.

Then let's see what ya think ;)

Getting back to the rule change, bad idea Rod but hey, your site, your rules and you can do what you want........

Maybe there should be a rule as to how many passes you've been in before starting a pass. Or maybe whoever starts a pass should read some completed passes. I'm just starting to read the GOB Pass now, so sorry if this offends anyone but, this ain't rock science people. :whistling:

my .02 cents for what it might be worth.

And one more thing, (I'm going for .03 more cents tonight) this is board. You can't tell people not to post on here under anything.

Hey John you and I can't but Rod CAN :D since it's his site :)

You are right there. And as for my skimming the the GOB Pass, if someone has not posted since :

*As stated on texasaggie's profile*
I would hope the host would realize not to send it to him. Maybe the "sweetness" of the gobstopper wore off, and now everyone's grown "sour" because it. I know I'll take notes from that pass when planning my first one. ;)

*edited text because I had a fragment sentence. miss crabtree ain't getting me!*

Hell, everyone else is chimin' in so I guess I'll throw my .02 cents in. :whistling:

Rod, I respect you and the site. I like hangin' here and the folks I've met I hope I can call freinds for a long time. The rule change however, I believe is a mistake. :(

A few folks have been "outted" if you will for their shady habits. A few folks have been spared the agony of an F'ed up pass bacause of some of the FOG's rollin' in and speakin' up about the "oversights"!!! ???

You have a great site here and we police a number of the problems. When the $hit hits the fan, you've proven you can roll in and work out the problem. I say staus quo in this situation is a good thing. :)

Family shouldn't let family get F'ed over. Yea we may squabble a bit but in the end, we're still family. Maybe re-thinkin' this for a while longer is a good idea?! ;)

Again, just my opinion.

My .02:

Don't like the rule. Remember when it was fun to watch passes you weren't involved in, and comment if something interested you (or bothered you). The EL contests is another good example of something that won't happen.

I also don't like the creating a Pass Discussion thread only because I think it would be a pain to check back and forth between the two threads, a la the early days of the wish list and wish list comments. It was a good idea on paper but I don't think it was what we had hoped.

I for one, enjoy and appreciate non-pass participants comments on my thread. Especially when someone is looking out for me.
