I have not yet created any new rules "officially". If I do in the future, we will vote on them as a community.

Fair?

I guess but ultimately it's YOUR decision Rod and you can do anything you want. You decided to pull the "News and Politics" forum without a vote and if you want to institute new rules or change existing rules that's totally your call.

Bottom line is if people don't like what you do, they can leave.........

CC: It sounds like you don't recall why the forum was pulled. It was a test for one month, and I said BEFORE I even added the forum that it was a test for ONE MONTH ONLY. I never created the forum as a permanent ficture, and that was very clear before I created it. Politics does not belong in a forum/community dedicated to cigar smoking. That's why there are policitical forums on the 'net. Even if politics is your career, that's great. Even though Information Technology/Networking is my career I don't have a computer section here. It simply makes no sense. I want to make it clear why the politics forum was pulled and that in fact it was never designed to remain in place for good. Read my previous post's if you beg to differ. Also, if someone has a problem with someone else, take it up privately. Why open a whole can of worms on the public forums? If you can't resolve it privately and you are 100% sure the guy it out to screw you and others, then (and only then) should it be made public. I've had trades go wrong in the past, and I have taken it up personally and 95% of the time it's resolved. If you want to make every little incident public, than that sounds like someone who's very dramatic (drama queen) and enjoy's flame wars.

Please stop with the "It's your decision Rod" or it's "your site do what you want" mentality. I listen to what you guys say/want and I'm fair. This site belongs to all of us as a community. If it was my site, I would do what I want and not care what you guys think. I'm trying to create a friendly cigar community. I stopped posting at the other forums quite some time ago due to all the flaming and drama BS. I'm not going to allow it to penetrate this site. The doors always open for those who wish to be dramatic, to leave.

Rod

Speaking of which Rod

Hey brother man, I hope I'm not buggin ya yet, and I know this isn't the correct thread, but I am SO SCREWED with my isp AND iPower I really have no clue if you've been getting my messages.

I have my email notifications sent to my gmail account, iPower has been down for 3 days now, and last they told me cigarpass was blacklisted :( :( :(
I know business is business, so I deeply apologize for posting this on the public thread.
Anxiously awaiting a word from you.
Thanks Rod!
Robert

BD,

I'm out of town and will respond to you tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay.

Thanks,
Rod

Rod, I'm not being flippant when I say it's your site and you can do what you want because the bottom line is that is 100% correct. I just want to make it clear that I'm not trying to be antagonistic with statements like that. ;)

As far as the "News and Politics" forum, I don't remember it being created as a temporary feature. No offense but my gut feeling is you wanted it to fail because had it been moderated at all, it would not have failed. Many other cigar sites, diesel engine sites and sites for many other interests are open to discussion on all topics and they usually (like CW) have a special place for political topics where members can have at it and moderators step in when necessary. In CigarWeekly's case, you have to have to be granted permission to have access to it AND they do not tolerate ugly flaming, period.

I remember a poll asking if we'd like one put in but I don't remember a poll being conducted when the decision was made to remove it ???

I for one do not "make every little incident public" either. However when there is a continual pattern of bad behavior on the part of a member, other CP members should know about it. Of course the offenders scream bloody murder when they are outed, whining about guys like me "picking on them" and "harassing them" I'd bet a fiver of Havanas you received PM's bitching about me from Barney ;) Sorry but his actions and nasty attitude at the time should not have been just burried or "let go" or "get over it" or whatever..........

It's not a matter of "drama" it's a matter of people here looking out for the entire community ;)

If ya'd like me to leave just say so and I'll obey your wishes.....

you know i'm trying to participate here in a positive way, but so far posts from gibu and cc are really personal...they are antagonistic...but you know what? they are not helping.

if i can help in a way that benefits everybody i'm happy to do it. and i'm willing to toughen up my skin if we can really get somewhere.

remember though...if your not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

CC if you read my original post i said that there IS a place for public debate about people and issues surrounding people, just like there's a place to take it to PM. but at some point it crosses the line...when it starts to get nasty...and untrue...and personal. something needs to be done if the parties cant settle it.

am i a scammer? well gibu and you think i am...your feelings have been made really clear about that. people have heard it for a while now...have i been outed? well, according to you i have. you guys have let your opinions be known...

again let me say that i could have handled things alot better in a few regards. does this make me a scammer? i think thats a little strong, but we have sorta beat this horse to death. CC you and gibu have the right to never deal with me in any fashion whatsoever.

what is the real issue here...in THIS thread...is how does the COMMUNITY feel about flamewars, and how far should they go. we all know that seperate from recent issues involving CC, gibu, leebo, me and whoever...there have been flamewars almost constantly in one way or another.

my .02 is that i'd like to see them stopped.

Whoa, let's all take a deep breath, and get into the caring tree. No reason for anyone to leave. Maybe this should just be let go. Run a poll on the rule or something. This open forum is just causing drama. I'm staying out of it for awhile. Good luck.

And if CC leaves, who is gunna correct my spelling? Ain't nobody gunna do no better job of that. shoot fire.

Barney, your posts were far more nasty and atagonistic than anything Gibu or I posted. I can go back and quote them if you like but "sweat off my balls" is your first one that comes to mind. Is that really participating in a positive way? I don't think so.....

There are many, many more so before ya go off on one of your "poor me" angles, check back and review your posts too, okay?

You want "flame wars" stopped? Then look in the mirror first ;)

hey CC...i'm trying to move FORWARD here...i have already apologized, k? i know thats a tough concept for you to grasp, but i can only take care of my side of the street. what i have not done is go back and talk specifically about things that you, me, or anyone else has done...i'm trying to establish a fresh start in this thread so that we can improve on the communuty...you into that?

anyone else feel like chiming in here?

My .02:

Don't like the rule. Remember when it was fun to watch passes you weren't involved in, and comment if something interested you (or bothered you). The EL contests is another good example of something that won't happen.

I also don't like the creating a Pass Discussion thread only because I think it would be a pain to check back and forth between the two threads, a la the early days of the wish list and wish list comments. It was a good idea on paper but I don't think it was what we had hoped.

I for one, enjoy and appreciate non-pass participants comments on my thread. Especially when someone is looking out for me.

I concur. This will make the web site significantly less interesting to me without comments from people who aren't in the pass.

And while I do agree there is a line in terms of butting into another person's pass, I also think that a number of passes here (whether they know it or not) could use the experience of the FOGs.

Well-said Barney -- btw, great to see you again -- even if ya did take my money ;)

As for the politics forum, I actually think now that the venom that's ever-present in an election year is over, it'd go over better... but I still believe pulling the forum was the right thing to do.

However, I think such a forum could work if it were moderated actively, sanctioning people who resort to personal attacks, etc. That's a lot of work though, and you need a sensible, thick-skinned moderator to do it.

It ain't THAT much work Moki. Ya do it ONCE and word gets around real freakin' fast then the rest of the stiff dicks start watching their step.

There were a few people posting there who should have been banned from that forum just as had been outlined in the rules yet they were not. Again had one person had their pee pee whacked, it would have gone a long way to keeping order in that forum. ;)

Rod...good call. :D I'm happy to see no changes are to be made yet.

As for the rest of you, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY should be a word you look up and take heed. If you F-up, unscrew it and move on. If you F a Brother over, correct it in short order. $hit happens and we all mess up however, adults should be able to identify the issue and work it out. It's all about INTEGRITY.

CVM, I respectfully disagree with you r earlier post about, "....they knew what they were getting themselves into...the pass could get stolen etc..." BULL$HIT! When I set up a pass, sure it may get LOST in the mail but I ain't acceptin' that one of the folks in it are gonna steal it or rip me for a number ofpremiums and replace 'em with $HIT!!! That certainy is not expected in a pass. If that's the case, why have a pass?! ???

Gentlemen, I say this, stand up and be counted. If ya can't, please leave as we don't need you here.

Floyd T. :sign:

That's cool Floyd since it's IYO. I was merely pointing out some unforeseen problems that a pass could have. Sure no one expects a pass to get lost or stolen. But anything can happen ;)

Since you asked...
Moving forward is not the same thing as getting in the last shot and THEN moving forward. Moving forward starts when promises are finally kept or settled and apology given. Doing less hurts us all as a community and makes running this board a lot more work I would think. And please don't try to tell us all it's in jest. Jesting is between friends or friendly combatants. Period.

Were you right or wrong? Period.

I don't see why you keep posting things like this. Yes, the wind can knock over a tree and kill children. Or a drunk driver can swerve and kill children. Anything can happen. But one could be prevented by good character and one can't. The subject matter here is about integrity. Not accidents.

The solution is clear to Barney's and CC's problem. If Barney owes CC a bottle of wine he should send it. CC should cease posting about the Gobstopper pass as everyone should have an idea of what is going on there, whether for or against it. Wipe the slate clean, start over, and if more problems occur, Rod should take the proper action. Both guys have their opinions on each other. No one is going to change that. I just feel we all have an opinion formed by now and all this bickering is going no where.
