As far as the "News and Politics" forum, I don't remember it being created as a temporary feature. No offense but my gut feeling is you wanted it to fail because had it been moderated at all, it would not have failed. Many other cigar sites, diesel engine sites and sites for many other interests are open to discussion on all topics and they usually (like CW) have a special place for political topics where members can have at it and moderators step in when necessary. In CigarWeekly's case, you have to have to be granted permission to have access to it AND they do not tolerate ugly flaming, period.

Why do you not let anything go, Bill? I thought we were passed this, but I guess in your eyes we're not. Don't quite understand why you thrive on the past, and have such a problem moving on. Politics does not belong at this cigar site, it does nothing but create tension. Why should I create more work for myself in moderating something like a political forum, just because BILL wants it? If you enjoy the other cigar site's that do offer political discussion, then by all means go there. Why do you feel the need to cast your political views on every forum?

I remember a poll asking if we'd like one put in but I don't remember a poll being conducted when the decision was made to remove it ???

It was a test, CC. It failed. Sometimes I will take decission's into my own hands simply for the betterment of the community.

Whoa, hold on here, it's not a matter of being or not being "past" (Mr. Grammarian sez "past" not "passed" ) anything, I only mentioned it because I agree with the fact that this is your site and you can do with it as you please. You talked about instituting a new rule then decided that you thought it was "fair" to poll the audience before major rule or policy changes.

Ya removed the "News & Politics" forum without warning. You have the position that is does not belong at this site and again Rod, that's fine, your site, your rules. It may create tension for those who are too emotional to handle it but for a majority of the people who participated in it, that was not the case at all.

Well the gob has heated back up...what i found interesting is that leebo feels because the board is self-moderated that he pretty much has free reign to do and say whatever he wishes.

it should be obvious to everyone that Cigarpass is no longer the "Friendly & Inviting Cigar Community" that it claims to be on the door.

In the time that I have been here I have seen numerous attacks by people on various member in our community. If the attack was more justified generally others pile on. But if it was unwarranted, rarely did people speak up for the injured party...and if they did another round of flaming occured against them. Certain bashers seem to be beyond reproach or criticism by the community. They are the ones that instigate the flame wars for all of us too look at...It's clear that this board has become as much about drama as it is about cigars.

People there must be a better way

look, you have your views and its nice that you share them in such a friendly way. the point that i'm trying to make is that the flamewars are getting old. if the only solution is that people (me in this case) should just sit back and take abuse from those of you with "character" rather than speaking up...

makes sense to me.

one thing is good...this convo is going on outside of the gob thread. hey i have a great idea...why not start a special forum inside of CP where people can just flame each other? that way the community wont have to put up with it in places where it doesn't belong.

How can anyone thats been here as short of a time as you have so many people most of them well established foggs, against him when he hasn't done anything wrong?? At the time of your post If you worldn't have pissed anyone off making them quit, at the end of the gob you would have gotten back your original 25 cigars 25 cigars to start the gob with again plus a gain of 13 cigars and that still wasnt enough for you , you had the nerve to ask for more cigars, so for you it looks like the gob wasnt about haveing fun, as you a say this sight isnt but it was all about getting free cigars.

Oh and by the way I don't make it a practice of jumping on anyone , but enough is enough.

all i can say is that i really wanted to set up a pass where everyone ended up benefiting...and now its just a pile of dust.

i remember a very long war tween you and Dave. Was he deserving...i dunno...you thought he was or you wouldn't have gone there obviously. i guess what i'm trying to get at here is not the reasons, whether they are right, who did what...i'm just trying to come up with ideas where everyone can do what they want and we can still enjoy passes and cigars.

in the gob, we had a really good example of this...CC, who was no longer in the pass...started up with the wine. Hey I was at fault too! But the end result is that my pass was pretty much destroyed.

Is that fair? I don't think so...but it will happen again in one form or another. If the board wants to remain self-moderated, why not establish a place where these issues can be hacked out? Just by starting this .02 thread, we have gotten it out of the gob thread, so i feel that is a step in the right direction
