Dear Valued Customer,

As you are likely aware, Internet tobacco sales are facing increased
scrutiny from both federal and state agencies. Such sales are now also
facing increased scrutiny from the credit card companies. Due to recent
policy changes by the credit card companies regarding all Internet tobacco
product sales, we are currently unable to complete your transaction. Each
member of our team is working diligently to correct the problem and we
anticipate having this situation corrected in the very near future. We
apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause you. As soon as we
are confident we can again fulfill your order without any unnecessary
delays, we will contact you. We have not and will not charge your credit
card until such a time that we are able to ship your order immediately. We
hope you can remain patient and will allow us to serve you now and in the
future.

Thank you,
MyCigarettes Team

Can cigar sales be far behind?

more bologna from the tobacco police, guess the government knows better than we do. sure is a good thing how the "radicals" are trying to "shape"our country. I believe children should not have access to tobacco products at all. I guess pressure from the "radicals" and threats to withdraw legislation and "pork" in the bills that effects the credit card companies directly is one way to do it. sorry for the rant...

GOv't wants their money! And no way to get around paying taxes!

They do seem to be militant about cigarette taxes but you're probably right. Cigars can't be far behind.

The states have been going after cigarette taxes.
I read that New York City obtained the records from VISA. :angry2:
I guess that all internet sales can't be to far behind. :(
Might be time to start paying by check or M.O.

Freakin' Nazi's.

Cigars might not get the hit, seems that we're never in the news, just the ciggie folk.

At least... That's what I'm hoping.

A buddy of mine's mom buys cigs on line. She recently got a bill from the State of Washington for the taxes; tax / penalty on undeclared cigs is 140% of the retail sales price of the cigs.

Damn........ :whistling:

I've argued in the past that it's the responsibility of the merchant to charge and collect the sales tax, and then distribute it to the representative states. It's no different than walking in to your local shop, them charging you no sales tax, but then them telling you that you now have the responsibility to go pay/deliver your sales tax. That simply doesn't help and the burden is on merchants to charge you. That doesn't shift just because you deal with someone who's out of state. That out of state merchant still, arguably, has that same burden (since they have that same burden by their own state).

A local official bought this reasoning and zeroed out what I allegedly owed on some out-of-state purchases. The problem here is that we're dealing with so-called "sin-taxable" items such as smokes, which is lumped with all things good and proper like alcohol, porn, etc. :)

But, at any rate, it's still an argument to make that's worked for me. We're just likely to see congressional legislation cracking down on internet sales so as to put increased pressure on merchants to charge sales tax, since getting it from the customer is daunting task for them. I think even the 140% deal won't hold up if it were challenged in court. Then it may be a case where it costs more than it's worth to go after average joe's to get the $$$.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE! Due to circumstances beyond our control our company is no longer able to accept orders for tobacco products with a shipping address located in any of the following States: Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia

Just found this on my usual online cigarette page. In addition to this list, they are no longer shipping to Utah, either. :angry2:

Notice it says "tobacco products". This site also sells cigars.
