I have a lot of scotch but I really only collect one thing and that is the Balvenie Vintage casks. I know I'll never get all of them since the 1952 is about $8000 and the 1951 about $3500 but I now have completed all the rest. For over 3 years I have been looking for the 1964 with no success until a member here (who wishes to remain in the background) hooked me up with somebody who had one available. The price was quickly negotiated and now it is mine.

Beautiful ain't it

Nice Ray, Is that something you will ever partake of? Or, is it strictly a collectors item for you?

The Vintage casks are strictly for collecting unless I hit the lotto sometime. Getting this one easily increased the value of the collection by more then double the purchase price. I'm only missing the 1951 at about $3.5K and the 1952 at $8K. I don't know if buying an $8K bottle would increase teh value of the collection by any more then $8K anyway. I'll start looking for a 1951 but I've only seen one in 8 years and even at a couple of grand it's doubtful I can get it. The 1952 is way beyond my budget. Until then I'll save up for the next release which I expect will be sometime next year.

The vintage casks in order released so far are:
(distill dates)
1951
1952
1961
1964
1966 (2 US versions, one with a tube which I have and another in a wood box that I'm working on)
1967
1968
1970
1972 (first release)
1973
1971
1972 (second release)
Plus I have all the limited distillery only releases which can only be gotten at Balvenie itself

That's Beautiful Ray!!! Three years, the right connection, a few $$$ and magic can happen even for the crustiest of Devil Dogs! Congrats brother, that's really awesome (I'm jealous).

I'll keep looking if you really want one. :D

The first issue 1972 would be fine (I'm afraid to ask?). I think Loren and I could go together and split that for our birthday! Congrats again on you latest member of your clan!

Scotch split with Brad. 1972 was a very good year indeed. :D

God knows I try to take care of you guys. I find it for you, get you a good price and make sure they can ship. Next you'll want me to buy it too :p

Ray congrats on the the find and acquisition. Like a few have mentioned half the fun is the chase!

Very nice Ray, congrats on the addition to the collection!

Reasonable to me or Bill Gates?

Since I don't know of any actually for sale and haven't seen one in 8 years it could be a long time before I find one at all, reasonable or otherwise.

Congratulations on your find Ray, that's 1 sweet looking bottle!

Now, how long until you find a 1951 at a reasonable price? <eg>
