Anyone Enjoy Deep Sea Fishing ?

Freakin' skunked, it was dead out, the only thing I caught was a dam sand shark..arrrggghhhh. The entire party boat only caught one Fluke and a throw back striper.
 
Damn..... Last time I went out on a boat to fish... I got deathly sick... spent the entire trip "Chuming" the water.... I don't think I would be any fun..... Shit
 
Man, deep sea fishing sounds like so much fun! Maybe someday I'll have the opportunity to try it out.
 
For NY fishing one word, MONTAUK! I've been fishing out there since I was a kid. My favorite memory was the sharking tourney they had in the summer. They would bring in huge sharks to the dock to be hanged and weighed, now that has to be some intense fishing!

Thankfully I did not read this until just nowafter the trip this evening. It was a slow night for us BOTL in the LI Sound. I caugght one coctail blue and Roy and I both lost at least one other. But the weather was great, the smokes were awesome( we enjoyed a nice mix of some super premiums) and the company was great. So besides teh lack of fishe a great time. We only have to load the boat next tiem and will have a historic HERF!
 
At one time in my life I was an offshore lobsterman. We used to leave out of Sandwich Harbor on Cape Cod and head out to either George's Bank (7-10 day trip) or the Grand Banks (13-20 day trip). No matter what location we went to, there was no land in sight in any direction as it took a minimum of 15 hours to get there before you started fishing and no land in sight at all for the duration of the actual fishing time. As I get on in age, I find that I am missing the sea a lot. I think that I will have to somehow get myself a boat and find some way to get time off enough from work to make a trip or two out to deep water again. On all of the trips I made out as a lobsterman, I can seriously only remember 2 times that we had nice weather. The majority of our trips ......30-60 foot swells (swells are NOT waves for the uninformed LOL) working full time on a rolling deck. If you've never been in big swells, (we were on a 50 foot boat) ......when you are at the top of the swell......you can see for MILES.....when you are at the bottom......all you see no matter in what direction you look is walls of water higher than your boat. Needless to say I "chummed" the water on more than one occasion, BUT I can say without a doubt, it made a man out of me. Prior to that job I was a kid. I miss it, but I would not do it again with a family...only as recreation.
 
going out Sunday with all the guys from my fire station- should be interesting, to say the least! Then if the weather holds we'll be out in my boat Monday (just without the beer this time)

with any luck we'll have some good fishing, and better photos! :laugh: with a bunch of drunk firemen, you never know what photos will pop up on your camera :whistling:

Was tired as hell yesterday.. long week.. sorry could not make it. Let me know if anything else is happening this weekend I am def in :thumbs:
 
I was out this morning on my boat, snagged bunkers all morning but the schools of bunker had no fish under them. After all the crowds came I moved away and fished for fluke, caught 5-6 but they were all shorts.

LOL! If ever there was a stupid thing to say right before going fishing...:blush: Well, at least you managed to land one. Next time I'm bringing my own gear. Trying to detect bites with that broomstick of a rod they provided was pretty tough. The 1960's reel and the hooks so dull they wouldn't pierce the bait didn't help the cause either. Regardless, it was a great time on the water. Thanks for the excellent smokes--we must do it again sometime!
 
Had my good trip out on the water... the guys from my station, and a few family members, rented the whole damn charter boat- all 53' of it. 12 people, 6 growlers of Beer, 2 halibut per person, and calm seas. YeHAWWW!


the bigger of the 24 fish - mine is the big bastard in the middle- all 100# of her. the days catch ranged from 20# to the 100#.

And damn, did she taste good beer battered and deep fried! :laugh:

Wow, congrats on what looks like a spectacular trip! While I know there are other species that draw most folks up to Alaska to fish, for some reason, I just want to go up there to fish for halibut. Maybe it's the prospect of having an unending supply of fish in the freezer that is so appealing!

The fish were jumping in the boat last night in the Western Sound, so Roy R. Frush and I got off the snide and fought some fairly active blues. He has the photos, so I am sure he will post em up soon.
