So I upgraded to the new 4g iphone (200$) go home to sync it and my old apple computer needs to be upgraded to run my new phones software.
I go get the the new software, (200$) go to install that , my computer needs more memory to run it, so I go to get more Memory.
RAM card 100$ install that, install software upgrade and now my computer is slow as shit and it still does not recognize the new iphone. 500$ apple made off me yesterday!!

On my way to the genius bar for the third time in two days!!

Sorry to laugh at your misfortune Kona, but that was pretty funny. And typical. I prefer OS X to Windows, but Apple is definitely the next evil empire.

Sorry dawg but you must have a seriously old Mac with like OS 10.2 or something to need to upgrade your hardware and OS software to run iTunes 10. A 2003 era PC probably wouldn't run iTunes 10 very well or at all either. And why are you paying $200 to upgrade your OS? A copy of OS 10.5 only costs $99. The bottom line is I'm unsympathetic that you couldn't easily make the leap to a truely modern phone if the rest of your digital life if 5-8 years old.

There is a reason I'm sticking with my old Samsung dumb phone. All those modern appliances require and form a very complex and very expensive network. Welcome to the future.

My 2002 or 2003 3GHz XP Pro laptop runs iTunes 10 and sinks my iPhone 4 just fine. It does choke on the SolidWorks 2010 3D CAD software we run at work.

BTW, the iPhone 4 is not 4G technology. It is still a 3G phone.

Damn, I guess I hadn't realized how much Apple has its users over a barrel. But I think there is a theraputic website where you can find a sympathetic... www.ihateapple.net

Geezus, you can really feel the love in this thread... Kick him once while he's down, will ya?

Yea, that was harsh, I agree. I guess I'm fully aware of how expensive [read: complex] electronics are these days and find it surprising when somebody doesn't realize what they're in for with an upgrade.

A case in point: my buddy runs a computer shop and once told me a story of a guy who came in with an early Windows XP era computer and wanted it to be upgraded so he could play some first person shooter game. For a lot of people WinXP is a fully modern operating system. Needless to say he was pissed when my buddy advised him he would need a completely new computer in order play any reasonably new game. Its not the dude's fault he didn't know his 8 year old PC wouldn't play Halo 2 when it runs XP just fine, but its still kind of silly when people assume that the whole world of technology and software hasn't moved on.

Well heck, I might as well give you another target to shoot at. I switched to Apple five years ago, but I still had a love for certain aspects of Windows so I ran Parallels with XP (not a prob in the world including my wife having to VM to her office running Oracle).

After the wife retired I re-evaluated my needs for Windows programs (do I want a second partition and upgrade to Parallels 6?).

What I found is Apple is increasing their following in exponential ways, so what I needed to run on Windows before I can now run on Apple. AutoCad is a prime example or a major program acknowledging Apple ain't a tumbleweed in a windstorm.

Having said all that, Apple still can't run most of the PC's game (games is the key word here); but when Microsoft makes Office for Mac, that is telling you something. Then of course, PopCap and EA are porting their games over. Now there isn't much an Apple can't do.

It is a choice between you and your wallet and where you want to be technology wise, and we all know it's only going to continue to grow. Look a cable companies losing customers (and they are not going to Dish or Directv), they are going to Google and soon to be Apple TV and that will be the next big deal. You can see the postal system dying because of email, and the next will be television doing things we can't even were possible years ago.

So what did I just say here: it's like a cigar. I simply can not afford a Padron 46, so I stick with my Padron 2000. Same with computers, you can go insane to buy a $3000 game killer, or a decent PC or Mac to do more than enough to keep the average side of you happy. That Padron 46 or that Davidoff Habana will just have to wait for better times.

Sorry brothers, but today is Sunday, and this was my sermon for the month (and Jon, I can hear you yelling to shudup already.)

ahhaha... android.
There's also blackberry.

I dunno, i'm fond of my iphone.

I really hate blackberry with a passion... I guess it comes from when i was in charge of my companies cell phone program and had to change out 200 blackberry roller balls! not to mention no touch screen...
