Hey guys I was lucky enough to get my hands on an anejo from my B&M a month or so ago and have been waiting to smoke it. It was in the humi for over 50 days at 65% humidity or so. Well I just couldnt take the suspense any more and had to fire that baby up this weekend. It was the 55 I think...If I remember correctly it was the biggest ring gauge.

Anyway, I was not impressed at all. The burn and construction were magnificant but i just didnt get a lot of flavor. And I expected to be feeling it pretty strongly by the end of the smoke, after hearing of others who say its much worse than the opus, but I just got right up and never felt a thing. Wondering if I might have just missed the hype or if I should pony up again and see how it goes, maybe with a different ring gauge if I can find them.

Not to worry I fired up a nice hemingway classic that made up for it, which I will be posting the review soon. I was much more impressed with it than the anejo. thanks for listening to me gripe.

I have smoked several anejos, all but the 49. They are great smokes that I would like to smoke often. Give them a second chance. I will say that the 46 and the 50 have been my least favorites. So, if you smoked one of those see if you can get another size. I think the 55s are the best.

I second the second try!

I got a number of them sitting in my humi for a reason... I love 'em!

Go for a different size, or try the same one again and see if it is in fact a no joy for you.

I feel the same way about Anejos. I much prefer any Don Carlos. Consider yourself lucky. Remember smoking a cigar is a personal experience. Smoke what you like, not what people say you should like.

Doc.

I firmly believe that the Anejo line is one of the best maduro lines of cigars in the world. If there was a maduro cuban, I think it would taste a lot like an Anejo or Padron 1926/64 maduro. My two favorite in the Anejo line are the #55 and of course the #77 "shark". I have smoked every size in the production line and I would say that they both have the most flavor out of the others in the line. Give it another shot (my 0.02 :D )

I also had a not favorable first experience with Anejos, and just assumed they weren't my taste. I recently went overseas on vacation, and grabbed a couple of Anejos I had sitting in my humi, as I knew it would be a few days before I could get to a cigar stores at my destination. For whatever reason, I found the two I smoked recently to be superb cigars, much, much better than I remembered the first one. I recommend a second try, but keep open to the possibility that you just might not like them. Still, they are worth trying again to be sure.

I smoked an Anejo No. 50 last Thursday night. The above statement perfectly describes the cigar that I smoked. :( It was not a bad cigar by any stretch, but there was no burst of flavor that I am used to from Anejos. This cigar had been resting since the summer, so plenty of time to reach optimal humidity.

That said...I just got a dud. I've smoked many Anejos from every year that they have been release and can say without hesitation that it is my favorite maduro. Try another one.

I'm not a fan either.
I've smoked a few and the flavor is just not to my liking.
So I have some to stick in passes. ;)
Sure do like the Opus and Hemmingways though.

You should definately give the Anejo another try. They are one of my favorite smokes, very smooth with a subtle hint of cognac from the aging process. The quality of the aged tobacco in these sticks is outstanding with a wonderful taste on the back of the palate. Try exhaling through the nose to get the full flavor.

i had my first Anejo #48 a while ago and was impressed with it. When OpusXKC smoked a #50 on his bday in December...it seemed mild and take to the 48 I had. Was a great smoke either way but wasnt the same. I'd give them a few more shots and see if you like them then.

Must be one rare dud IMO as the one that I tried first and fell in love is a #50. I would try a few more and see if it agrees with your palate.

I used to be Anti- Anejo, but the recent ones, IMHO, have been great... maybe i just lucked out.

As far as the strength goes they are not nearly as strong as an Opus X.

Have to agree on this statement, I love how the Anejo taste though.

Still rather smoke a Padrón :p

I recently smoked an Anejo #48 and the entire 2/3's of the cigar was very bitter. The last 1/3 of the cigar tasted like coffee and chocolate. I don't know why it was so bitter, but this particular cigar was given 2 months in the humidor. I am starting to believe that Arturo Fuente manufactured Anejos that all taste bitter with their 2005 production run of the Anejo cigars.

Just reading the title of this thread, I knew what my response would be. DEFINATELY try again! These are excellent cigars though I have had similar experience. My first 2 were not good but since I had bought so many when I first found them, I was "forced" into continuing through them. I was richly rewarded.
